Looking for recommendation for a muzzle brake for my 700 SPS AAC-SD in .308.

This is the 5/8-24 threaded version. Would like something that can take on and off as needed.

This build has B&C Stock
Timney Trigger
Harris Bipod
Badger Rings
Viper PST 6-24x50

I am no expert like most of you but am having fun with this. Groups as of today are sub .50 at 100 yards. Best as of today of .334. It just seems it would be easier without as much jump from the muzzle.

Thanks for any help.

Which OD did you select for the JP brake? I just purchased the AAC-SD on Sunday so i still have a week to go before I can pick her up but I'll prob have the brake waiting along with the b&c m40 stock. Thanks!

You might want to look at the AAC Break Out or just their breaks. I have a few and they seem to work great. Not to mention the QD for a can if you go that route

Re: Muzzle Brake for 700 SPS AAC-SD

Not sure if you were still waiting on that brake, but I was going through forum after forum looking for info for that exact rifle/brake. If you click the details of the JP TactiCal brakes, it'll tell you that the OD measurement is what it tapers down to. If you're looking for one that will match your barrel thickness past the taper, you'll probably want a model with .875" OD such as this one

I measured the circumference of the 20" Rem 700 AAC-SD to 2.75" and calculated the diameter to around 0.875352187" So they should match. Time to order one for myself as well.

The Muscle Muzzel Brake is awesome. It is not easily removable though. It must be professionally timed. I have ordered a Seekins which can be taken off and put back on. Website says you need a gunsmith but you don't. I haven't got it in yet but will let you know what I think when I get a few rounds through it.

Re: Muzzle Brake for 700 SPS AAC-SD

Buddy got one of Ross' brakes and it usually needs timed but he was wanting to experiment with it first so he found a small rubber o-ring and put it on the barrel first then screwed the brake on. It was easy to align correctly and the o-ring kept it tight. You might have to experiment with different thicknesses to get one just right. He's shot a couple hundred rounds thru it and it's not moved or turned and works great. Just an idea if you want to try it first before having it timed to your gun. I also tried it on mine that way when switching between the Ross and a Harrells and I found no difference in impact at 700 yards and that lil o-ring kept it right where I tightened it at.

not trying to dog on you just a suggestion. muzzle break with help but also try and be very critical of your shooting position. obviously there is no way of me knowing how you are shooting (off a bench or prone) but if possible load your bipods forward and if you have a good position behind it youll be surprised how little jump youll get and how quickly you can be on target for those follow on shots.

Re: Muzzle Brake for 700 SPS AAC-SD

I have an AAC break on mine and it really tamed the recoil. It comes with spacers to properly time it. It took me awhile to get it just right, but it's worked great. It's really on there well with torque+rockset. I also have a suppressor for it and attaching/removing that hasn't been an issue.

The AAC-SD I have and the "newer" 51T model I'm aware of are Quick attach/detach which means you NEED an AAC muzzle device (flashhider or brake) from them. No aftermarket options available period.

If you want to use an aftermarket like the RAD Brake, Muscle Brake etc (which are both good) then you'll need a thread on can not a quick attach/detach suppressor like the AAC Cyclone.

Huh? Care to clarify that a little? The AAC-SD I bought barely a month ago is threaded 5/8-24 so any end-mount muzzle device with that same thread pitch will fit, so your "No aftermarket options available period" statement has me scratching my head.

Re: Muzzle Brake for 700 SPS AAC-SD

You really cant beat Ross' brakes here on the hide. $45 is half or even less than most others. I timed it myself by filing some of the back till it tightened up to the right spot.

Re: Muzzle Brake for 700 SPS AAC-SD

I have had decent results with the AAC Brakeout & the FSC30.
Good compromise between muzzle control & side blast.
I'm not a fan of brakes with dozens of tiny ports; they look cool & all, but are a bitch to keep clean in the field.
As far as installation - it's not rocket science - get an approprate crush washer or shims, and thread it on so the ports face where they're supposed to.
