My ADL Facelift

This is my first post on this forum, and my first plunge into shooting at any great distance. I had my ole trusty Remington 700 ADL in .270 win that I bought in high school and decided it was time to pick up a new, challenging hobby for my free time. This is the product of my searching and googling.

The gun still has the factory trigger, but with it being a slightly older (late 90's) 700 its acceptable. Its not the best looking rig on this site but it gets the job done.

The first time it saw the range and me behind the trigger was a couple weeks ago to get it on paper. That day I think when I measured the group on the second target it was shooting around 0.7 MOA.

First target, getting on paper and zeroed, 50 yards, 13.97 130 gr Federal Power-Shok from wally world

Second target, shooting for a group, same distance, same ammo

Last weekend I was on the farm and got to shoot the gun at 200 yards with the same federal ammo. If it gets better with reloads I'm really gonna like this rig. Five shot group just over 0.5 MOA and the first three shots were around 0.18 MOA. I'm a happy camper.

did you bed the stock? Aluminum pillars?

The stock has the full length aluminum V-block in it. I haven't done a thing to it other than torque it down.

looks good! mine is going through a transformation too. I was going with a choate stock, but ended up with the B&C A2 with the addition of a Wyatt DBM kit.

the stock came here today and the rest of the stuff should be here soon!

It would have been nice to have a mag or bottom metal but, for cost and usage I couldn't justify it on this rig.

yeah same here. I couldn't justify it either. I probably should have kept the choate stock like I had planned and spent the 250 bucks on reloading equipment or a barrel

but I really wanted the magazine (not sure why, I guess I wanted that 'tactical' advantage and looks) so I went with it. I could have most certainly done without it.

Thats my next step. I have the press and reload .45 ACP. I need to get the dies for the .270 and go to town with some Bergers or SMK's.

Yeah, I'm ordering all my reloading equipment with the next paycheck I get. in the long run, it should help me with cost of ammo. that and should get me away form this damn computer for a bit. lol

I was hoping it would be more or a coyote/whitetail/general varmint slayer. It'll be making a maiden voyage to the field this weekend looking for blood, if I do all the ranging calculations correctly. I can tell from the ballistics charts on the ammo that the 26" barrel packs a little more velocity than the charts say.

When I shot those targets I was using a sandbag on top of a 55 gallon drum. I usually improvise and use whatever I have around me for a rest and support. I want a bipod but I really don't want two, three, or four of them for different heights. If I knew what height bipod would be ok for all around shooting I would take the plunge an buy one.

well why not get an adjustable one? 6-9 inches. I usually just shoot with 6, but ya can go upto 9

I thought about a 6-9" bipod but I don't ever really shoot in the prone position that much. I usually sit or use the side of a tree in the hills of east tn. I think the 6-9" would work great for prone or bench work but I'm not sure it would be good for much else to me.

Several of the commonly used pods have leg sets that allow for shorter or longer deployment. Harris has all sorts of legs, Atlas somewhat fewer. You shouldn't have any problem coming up with a combo that suits your style and terrain
