Re: My built 7mm-08

Nice rifle man.

I like the Nosler ballistic tips in my 7mm08's and 7mmSTW. Been using them for about 10 yrs, shoot great. I have killed big bodied deer from as close to 30 out to 450yds with them also.

<-- Buck in avatar was about 75 yds, high shoulder bone 140 gr Nos btip, 7mmSTW, never took another step.

SScott - what overall length are you loading your 162 AMax's at? Also was that a custom barrel or factory?

TIA

Re: My built 7mm-08

Thanks guys! I've got a 140"+ buck on camera that is hopefully gonna have a come to Jesus meeting with this jewel in a couple months.

I will have some better pics of the setup this evening for you guys when I pick it up!

Re: My built 7mm-08

You'll love the 7mm-08. I found the 162 BTHP is more stable at longer ranges. Here is my load data.

162 A-max
Winchestor Brass
200CCI Primer
47.2g H4350
2.905 OAL
2700fps

162 BTHP
Winchestor Brass
200CCI Primer
47.2g H4350
2.875 OAL
2780fps

The O-give on the two bullets is much different and the BC on the BTHP is suppose to be lower but they fly much better for me. Those OALs give me the same .02" off the lands.

Good luck,
Merritt

It is COAL of 2.945 which is just under max mag lenght for a Sako TRG 22 with a 26" Benchmark 3 groove 1-9 twist barrel.

Each rifle and barrel is different but Ive learned to run my bullet out until it touches the lands. Then back it of in increments of .01 inches and do load testing, then back off another .01 and test again. Usually you will find bug holes at the .02" off the land mark.

Good luck,
Merritt
