I'm wanting to have a new weapon built for me. I'm still in the planning stage or dream mode and I need some help. I am wanting it for deer and Target use and long range predators. I also walk, alot when I'm out in the woods so it can't be to heavy. I would like to be able to get out and reach them on paper at 800 to 1000. And out to 500 on deer if everything is just right.7mm mag is what I'm going to use for the round. And I like larson 7000 with a jewel trigger as to that is the only custom gun that I have got to shoot. I like the sniper stocks and a removable mag in there also. I am new to this so I don't know what's good and what's junk so any help would be great. Also what would be a good barrel, length, contur, rifleing, ext... And I think I want it in ss but nothing is for sure but the 7mm mag.

Re: my first custom

The best advice I have seen on here yet is too not ask questions that are lying around everywhere. Look and find them for yourself, and do not ask to be spoon fed. I have been getting information from here for quite awhile, but I have never felt the need to sign up until lately.

Re: my first custom

Get you a Remington Sendero in 7mm Rem Mag, add a McMillan A3 stock with your choice of dbm setup (or just keep the HS Precision stock), have it bedded, get you a good set of rings, bases, and some good glass.

Key advice there, GOOD GLASS

Re: my first custom

If you want to skip bedding get an AICS, the detachable mag system is built in. remau308 has the best advise. Search, read and you can have all the information you need. Make decisions on what you want based on what you read.

Re: my first custom

If you can't find what you are looking for through the search on the site go to Yahoo/Google and type in for example "CDI Bottom Metal Snipershide.com"

Usually that will get you what you want.

Re: my first custom

Do look around some more and read as much as you can. Research all these things before you make any descisions, and for f_ck sakes don't blow your whole budget on the rifle, save 40-60% of it for the scope. And if I may, humbly suggest either a 7WSM in a SA, or a 280AI in a long instead of the 7mag?

Agreed, There are many good caliber choices besides a 7RM that will give you plenty of deer killing power and also get you to 1K without issue, but will also not cost you so much to feed and will give you a much longer barrel life. Your gonna want to shoot this thing and a 7mm Rem Mag will give you great results for a shorter period of time.

Re: my first custom

Dont worry about asking questions. If this is your first build, I find it usefull to get information and advice. When I built my first custom, I asked around. I wanted everything to be right the first time.

Please keep us posted on your build and the progress.

Re: my first custom

Thanks for all the good input. I have money for the action and a stock but after that I'm going low on funds for the project. So I think im goin to watch around for a good deal for as long as I can stand to hold off on this.
