Hey everyone!

I didn't see a specific spot to put an introduction so just thought I'd toss it up here. My name is Scott. 37 years old. Currently reside in WISCONSIN. I like long walks on the beach and moonlit ATV rides... (just kidding)

I stumbled upon this site while doing a search for all things Remington 700 and found more information and data than I currently know what to do with. I've been coming here regularly to lurk and read as much as I can simply because it's fun to be overwhelmed with this much great information and photos. Who doesn't like photos?

I need a rifle that's versatile enough for North American game like whitetail deer and black bear, yet I would like to be able to dabble in the occasional long-range shot for fun. I've not yet had the pleasure of shooting anything out and beyond even 200 yards, hence, my search for a Remington 700. I like the heavy, short-barrel concept of the SPS Tactical model and it seems like it can be had for under $650 and in some case, under $600.

Anyway, I do enjoy hunting, musky fishing, trapping, hiking, reading, photography and killing zombies. I'm just kidding, I really don't like reading all that much. Unless it's a good gun rag!!

As a Wisconsinite and as of Nov. 1st, our awesome Gov. Scott Walker has now made it legal to carry a concealed weapon. I wanted something rugged, durable and dependable. And I knew I wasn't going to be carrying a weapon 24 hours per day. My wife and I do quite a bit of hiking in the north woods and I wanted something I could simply toss into my backpack just in case we stumble upon a pack of rapid wolves, a cranky badger or a Yeti. This led me to an awesome deal on a Smith & Wesson 686 w/2.5" barrel. I took it to the range last weekend and at 15-yards, I know it ain't the prettiest grouping in the world... but for my first time firing the weapon, I'm fairly pleased. Again, I didn't buy this so I could have a lightweight, daily carry firearm. I'm well aware not everyone is going to want to carry around a K/L frame Smith & Wesson revolver, but I'm very happy with my purchase. I did obtain a IWB holster for this frame revolver in case I did want it closer on my persons while hiking or walking through the woods (or tromping through Northeast Milwaukee) and it honestly isn't that uncomfortable at all.

Looking forward to forging some new online friendships with you guys and learning even more...

Re: My INTRO + S&W 686

Welcome to the HIDE Scott! Nice pistola there. I myself have a 686 in a 6" version in stainless. only a six shooter though. pretty nice shootin pistol. the sps tactical rifle is great to start with. options are endless to upgrade. i had one and it shot great.

Re: My INTRO + S&W 686

Scott,

Don't forget you can run 38spl loads in that 686. It will get you more trigger time at a cheaper price. Nice carry peice, I went with the Model 60 (5 shot) but pretty much the same gun.

Re: My INTRO + S&W 686

Hey, thanks guys!!

I'm actually gonna get some .38 special ammo so I can bring my wife to the range with me, as well. Honestly, I just picked up the gun last Saturday and forgot to pick up some .38 special ammo at the shop before heading to the range.

The only thing I had with me was some Remington SoftCore 158-gr. hollow points in .357 mag that I ordered the same time I placed the order for the gun. Despite the full .357 mag loads, my wife shot a full 7-shot cylinder down range at 15-yards and 4 of her 7 shots hit the paper. She was, like, "I don't need no stinkin' .38 special ammunition!"

Hahaha.

Re: My INTRO + S&W 686

Honestly, the 7-shot cylinder is one of the main reasons that influenced my purchase. I figure, I'm in pretty good hands with 7-shots of full .357 mag loads.

Technically, the model is a S&W 686P... the "P" is for plus and aside from having a different contoured Hogue rubber grip, I believe it also distinguishes the 7-shot vs. 6-shot cylinders. I may be mistaken, but I believe that is the case.

Hi Scott... and Welcome!

Congratulations on the Concealed Carry going through and your purchase. We're still in the Communist state just South of you! I carried and shot my 4" 6-shot 686 for quite awhile and had well over 10,000 rounds through it. In a moment of weakness (and stupidity) I sold the best shooting revolver I ever owned!

Hey, thanks George!!

Sorry to hear you sold your 686!
I acutally ordered a Bianchi IWB holster from you guys a couple of weeks ago and my 686P fits perfectly in it. Nice holster and you guys had it at the lowest price around...

Hey, thanks man... I appreciate that!

It's a DSLR made by Fujifilm. Model is their S200EXR.
I've had it for about a year and a half now and am pretty happy with it, overall.

Hey, thanks guys!

Really gettin' a lot of awesome information here. I've done more reading in the last couple of weeks than I even know what to do with. I can't wait to get a LR bolt-action rifle of my own, but these damn responsibilities in life are delaying this. *grr!*
