Hey everyone!
I didn't see a specific spot to put an introduction so just thought I'd toss it up here. My name is Scott. 37 years old. Currently reside in WISCONSIN. I like long walks on the beach and moonlit ATV rides... (just kidding)
I stumbled upon this site while doing a search for all things Remington 700 and found more information and data than I currently know what to do with. I've been coming here regularly to lurk and read as much as I can simply because it's fun to be overwhelmed with this much great information and photos. Who doesn't like photos?
I need a rifle that's versatile enough for North American game like whitetail deer and black bear, yet I would like to be able to dabble in the occasional long-range shot for fun. I've not yet had the pleasure of shooting anything out and beyond even 200 yards, hence, my search for a Remington 700. I like the heavy, short-barrel concept of the SPS Tactical model and it seems like it can be had for under $650 and in some case, under $600.
Anyway, I do enjoy hunting, musky fishing, trapping, hiking, reading, photography and killing zombies. I'm just kidding, I really don't like reading all that much. Unless it's a good gun rag!!
As a Wisconsinite and as of Nov. 1st, our awesome Gov. Scott Walker has now made it legal to carry a concealed weapon. I wanted something rugged, durable and dependable. And I knew I wasn't going to be carrying a weapon 24 hours per day. My wife and I do quite a bit of hiking in the north woods and I wanted something I could simply toss into my backpack just in case we stumble upon a pack of rapid wolves, a cranky badger or a Yeti. This led me to an awesome deal on a Smith & Wesson 686 w/2.5" barrel. I took it to the range last weekend and at 15-yards, I know it ain't the prettiest grouping in the world... but for my first time firing the weapon, I'm fairly pleased. Again, I didn't buy this so I could have a lightweight, daily carry firearm. I'm well aware not everyone is going to want to carry around a K/L frame Smith & Wesson revolver, but I'm very happy with my purchase. I did obtain a IWB holster for this frame revolver in case I did want it closer on my persons while hiking or walking through the woods (or tromping through Northeast Milwaukee) and it honestly isn't that uncomfortable at all.
Looking forward to forging some new online friendships with you guys and learning even more...
