I just got my new rifle last week that I purchased off of Hide member deadly0311. The action was built, trued and barreled by Hide member GunjunkieM24. Deadly0311 did the work himself of fine tuning the trigger and bedded the barreled action in a McMillan A5 stock.

Here is the skinny on the gun from the post where I purchased it:

-Remington 700 short action trued and bolt lugs lapped, bolt raceways opened up
-PTG Bolt body spiral fluted with badger knob
-Remington 700 trigger old style at a safe 2-2.5 ish pounds
-Shilen #7 HV 1-10 twist finished at 21.5 inches with a recessed 11 degree crown
-Tubb Recoil lug
-IOR 20 MOA base
-McMillan A5 with saddle cheekpiece 4 flush cups two left two bottom and pic rail up front for bipod, sniper fill, spacer system
-Badger Ordnance M5 bottom metal
- (1) 10 round AICS mag
-Pillar and skim bedded with Devcon
"this rifle shoots every bit as good as your GAP, APA, or other customs, have group pics if needed. Shot .2 MOA sunday with this rifle"

This was a pretty strong claim...I figured if it shot half as good as deadly0311 claimed, I'd be happy, and the gun would be more accurate than my abilities.

I took the rifle out to my ranch this weekend and shot it for the first time...man was I impressed. I mounted my SH ed. IOR 3x18 scope on the new rifle. We started off shooting from the front porch of my cabin where I have a steel target range set up to 600 yards. I was shooting the handloads for my other .308 which is 175 SMK's with 44 gr. varget.

Sorry all the pictures and video on this post are crappy Iphone pics, so no zoom ability.

First I zeroed it and shot it at 100 yards...this is an eight shot group (with my token one shot flyer!)

Here's a four shot group...

Next I shot it on small man steel targets made by Hide member LVshooter at 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards. The gun shot lights out at all of these distances. Once I got the dope right I felt like I could have made smiley faces on the targets with the gun at any of these distances.
Adjustments were:
200 yards .6 mils
300 yards 1.3 mils
400 yards 2.3 mils
500 yards 3.4 mils
600 yards 4.5 mils
Elev. 1200 ft., Temp. 58 deg., Humidity 85%, Bar. Press. 29.97 inHg...

Next we decided to try it at some distance and see what that 21.5" 1:10 twist barrel was capable of. We proceeded to move to one of my fence lines where we can shoot all the way out to 1200 yards.

The results were pretty impressive, especially considering that we had a variable cross wind blowing right to left and I am still learning all this wind adjustment stuff. Took me a few shots to determine the elevation adjustment needed was 15.9 mils., but once I figured it out the gun was dead on except for my wiggle and the wind.

Here's a link to some Iphone VIDEO of the results:

Here is a picture of some more shooting at 1200, not as good as the shooting in the video...

All in all, the gun shot better than I could have hoped for, thank you to deadly0311 and GunjunkieM24 for building such an accurate rifle! Now, if only I can learn to shoot good enough to live up to the potential of this great shooting rifle!

Re: My new custom Rem. 700 .308 -all the way to 12

outstanding shooting! what did the spread measure on that plate?

I would have expected a horizontal spread group instead of a vertical one. wonder why?
again, very nice.

sagebrush
The group on the video shows more horizontal spread...like you would expect. Since I feel pretty good about my ammo and my gun, I guess the vertical spread in this group is just me! That's a pretty big steel plate...spread is probably 20"

Re: My new custom Rem. 700 .308 -all the way to 12

well i guess it was accurate as i told you it was, and to think you had a little doubt about making it to 1K with that short barrel. Glad you like and glad its shooting good for you, guys if you ever get the chance to deal with Adam (Lucks) he is well beyond good to go

Yeah I don't think 1000 yards will be a problem.

Hey everyone, deadly0311 is beyond good to go, he did everything he could to get me the gun before the weekend, because I told him we had a trip planned to the ranch to go shooting. He even ended up sending the rifle out a day before payment arrived just to accomodate my schedule. Thanks again deadly...gun was every bit as good as you described, I couldn't be happier!

Re: My new custom Rem. 700 .308 -all the way to 1200yd

I am glad that you posted your mil ranging because I have the same scope as you and I was recently running my numbers on JBM and they are very close to yours. I just need to go out and verify the numbers.

What FPS are you running on your ammunition? I am running about 2600 fps with 168 GR AMAX.

Range Drop
(yd) (mil)
0 ***
100 0
200 -0.6
300 -1.5
400 -2.5
500 -3.6
600 -4.9
700 -6.3
800 -7.9
900 -9.8
1000 -11.9

thanks

Re: My new custom Rem. 700 .308 -all the way to 1200yd

Lucks, thanks for the DOPE. It is tracking pretty close to what I am seeing in mine. I use a 168 AMAX at 2600 FPS.

Thats what I'm shooting as well, but in cold weather my velocity was slightly lower. Here is my drop.

100 yard zero

550 yds 17 Minutes elevation

875 yds 29 Minutes

950 yds 29.5 Minutes

1175 yds 47 minutes plus 5 mils....ran out of elevation..lol

Re: My new custom Rem. 700 .308 -all the way to 1200yd

That is pretty dang far away for a .308!! I'd LOVE to know how much energy was left at 1200.

And I though that the .308 was just for 1,000 and in, I'd love to see what a 30-06 with a tight bore, 26" barrel could do.....

Very nice rifle you got there!!
