Posted this on Savage Shooters as well but thought you guys might have some insight. Got my 1st Savage centerfire, a Model 12FCV in 22-250Rem. Knew I wouldn't have any time to go to the range through the week so I went ahead and took care of that shiny barrel with some Duracoat and did a krylon job on the stock.

Then I set a 4-12x40 Leupold VX-R on top, and a 25" Harris swivel bipod underneath.

Got to the range today, wow what a shooter here's the good.

4 groups of 3 each shot at 100 yards with Federal Premium V-Shock. Just using the bipod off the bench, no rear support.

Now for the Bad and the Ugly, had picked up some Hornady 55gr VMax Varmint Express to shoot as well. First shot was fine number two not so good.

Recoil felt like a 308, bolt was very stiff, case was stuck and had to be driven out with a cleaning rod and small hammer. Primer was blown out around the edge and flat, left a nice ring of crap on the bolt face. The shot jacked up my extractor where it wouldn't pull brass out, I took it apart and got the piece of brass out from under it so that it pulls it back now, but it won't eject. It just drops the brass back in the rifle at the point it should be pitching it out the side.

What do I need to do with the bolt to get it ejecting again?

Re: My new savage and new troubles

The gasses coming out around the primer may have damaged or blown off your ejector. Have a Gunsmith take a look at it. I had a friend who had a 225 Winchester that blew a primer and it damaged his ejector. Blew it off of the bolt head. New ejector and spring and he was good to go.

Ejector plunger is very easy to push I think you're on it. I also got a nice little etched 1/2 circle on my bolt face.

I have emailed Hornady. This was standard stuff not superformance.

Re: My new savage and new troubles

I bought a Savage 12 LRP 260 and had the same problem but mine was caused by operator era when I loaded my loads to hot. I had to have Savage send me a new ejector pin. I figured after I got my load down then I would replace it. Savage sent me one for free! I have read that a weak ejector pin was a problem. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Re: My new savage and new troubles

I'd send it back to savage....you may have trashed your extractor or at least bent it out of spec some. Sorry about that, sucks when a brand new rifle takes a dump.

And hornady sst ammo is supposed to be good stuff even if they do claim it to be 200fps faster than comparable ammo.
