Rifle Scopes My SS 3-15 failure -- Missing thread ?

Ok so brief recap then: lots of us own (and really like) our 3-15s. There appear to be 4-5 hide members who had an issue where some internal element in the scope came loose. I believe those people saw a donut ring where the reticle was dropped down, but may have still been hitting POA?

All manufactured items...cars, scopes, parachutes, toasters...have some percentage of cases where they do not perform as expected.

There are a lot of people who abuse their 3-15s who are not experiencing this issue, despite hundreds of heavy recoil rounds being fired. In my opinion it's good to keep track of all the guys beating up on these things with no problems, and if there is a small incidence of this specific issue occurring it's good to track that as well.

It could be that all 5 of these guys ate at chucky cheese right before they went to the range, and their diphenal methylate farts in the car eroded a rubber mount in the scope. Or it could be they used tasco super-tactical rings, which put transverse pressure on the erector assembly thingamahicky. Or maybe the guy that works Thursdays at the scope factory is a fucking turd and he puts a spring in upside down 30% of the time. The fastest way to find out if these were anomalies or if they reflect something that needs to be addressed is to aggregate our data. I like old chevy trucks, turns out a lot of them crack the frame at the power steering pump. I know this and still like them, I just do what I need to do to mitigate the issue. All designs are flawed, we learn by trying.

I am an SWFA fan, own two, plan to buy more. Not sure why the thread was deleted but there's nothing wrong with owners sharing info. The thread title sucks, it could be "SWFA 3-15 owners unite" or something else. But I like having a place to discuss our successes and failures with this particular scope. If it's a great product, which I think it is, then a thread like that would show everyone how rare the failures are and why new customers should really give the scope a shot. And if it's a design or assembly issue, we'll figure that out too.

So...can we use this thread to track wins and losses with this scope?

If I remember right an argument broke out towards the end of the thread. Redneckbmxr and others started to argue back and forth. I didn't follow the thread after that but my guess is the forum rules were not being followed, so the thread was deleted. Too bad that a few people with the maturity level of a three year old can ruin a thread for everyone.

so how rare are failures of these and how much consistency is there between unit to unit quality and clarity? Also how good is the warranty and how fast are they to fix issues??

I followed the thread very closely at first because I'm on the verge of buying the 3x15. If I remember right four people came forward who had the same issue as the op. There were also people saying they had used theirs with zero problems even under hard use. I think swfa offered to replace the original scope, and offered the op a sweet deal on the 5x20hd, which I think he was ready to take. What I took from the thread was there may now be a known issue with the ss 3x15(albeit rare), but if you were to have a problem, swfa will back their product. As for me, I'm still planning to pick up a 3x15 in the future.

It was never confirmed but evidence leads to poor assembly off a lot from the factory. Some purchased years ago and some new ones never manifested a problem. I still rate SWFA over Vortex HST and PST. After owning both.
