It's long been said democrats are for the poor and republicans for the rich. The hidden implication of that is the vested interest dems have in maintaining and expanding the poverty class. If poor people become successful, dems lose their base. That's why you NEVER see a democrat run area being lifted out of poverty, despite decades of uninterrupted democrat control.
This is also why dems want unrestricted immigration by illegals. With more open jobs than unemployed people, it won't take long until people start asking why we have able bodied people on welfare with so many open jobs, and start cutting benefits to force them to decide between working or going hungry.
