The forensics of that battle are unbelievable in the details learned.
Most of the tankers in the Panther lived through the duel.
The commander bailing out of the Sherman died. Got to imagine the fame of that clip brings his survivors sorrow every time they see it.
The woman from the sedan lived having her car shot up and was treated by American medics but while lying in the street waiting for evac she was run over by a tank.
Scary shit how close they got.

Reliability, numbers, crews able to think/act on the fly came through though.
Those tanks were not the piece of shit "the history" would have you believe.
Its like the M16 - there were guys in Vietnam that loved it. There are even guys now that say people shot with one actually die. Its not hanging on over 50 years because it sucks.

Not saying they were shit. Just outmatched by German armor. Sherman's were more reliable, but were outgunned and had less protection for the crew. 75mm main gun vs. 88 mm.

Interesting one of the survivors from the Panther thought the Pershing was a German tank and accused the Americans of some sort of Skorzeny ruse.

I believe that was do to the fact that a Pershing looks nothing like a Sherman. That big ol muzzle brake on the main gun was similar to the German 88.

And they do focus on the muzzle brake,.....only natural, its where death comes from.

and the Germans found out that their behemoth tanks could not fit on all the rail systems encountered. They had to have crap like transport tracks and removal of skirts and armor in order to use some rail systems.
Their tanks were so big that it was important that they get rail transport most of the way to the battle because they couldnt eat up the service period driving to the fight.
I think most of our stuff once it hit land ended up driving all the way across Europe.

the Russian tanks were designed in Patterson NJ in the 30's , the US Army didn't like the design and went with something else.
OF historical note, the Marines never designed a tank in their history, they have these floating things that think they are tanks that can be stopped buy a 12.7 easily.

That was 2nd Brigade 3rd I.D. Long after my time. Not gonna lie though. I was grinning from ear to ear and sticking my chest out when I watched it unfold.
