Most "fellow Hiders" don't shoot Benchrest and therefore don't have a benhrest front rest.

Yes, there are plenty here who do but why not check a benchrest site?

Re: Need a good bench rest tripod

The range i go to only lets us shoot from a bench
im not shooting bench rest comp, but only 100yds. Curently
they provide 2X4s and carpet but the wood is rotted from being out side in the weather. and it rocks back and fourth with recoil.I usually put sand bags on it but thought i would try somthing new.
would that be more for prone shooting?

Re: Need a good bench rest tripod

I just looked at the prs link that is what i was looking for. I never heard of them. Im going to the range tomorrow morning to try the M24 build for the first time. Ill try the bi pod and rear bag. And the sand bags. ill see what works better. I now have the roedale brake installed. I asked about the caldwell because the basspro shop 10 min have them in stock. Ill wait and get the prs if i end up needin this. Ill post a range report.
Thanks

Re: Need a good bench rest tripod

You need to get a bunch of fellow shooters together and ask the the owners to build some solid benches. Ask them to pour a slab for footings, place concrete blocks for uprights, and a cast concrete top. Those will be a lot better than what you have. See if you can sponsor "A Rest Apiece" program and get some group boy/girl contributions together to help with the construction. Won't cost a lot, compared with flinging expensive bullets downrange with no good guess as from whence they were launched. JMHO

Re: Need a good bench rest tripod

The benches are not that bad. they are actually made of cinder blocks and have a fiberglass top. There is a slab underneath, the only thing is that they are small so the only way to shoot is to sit sideways you can't get behind the rifle. The range use to be worse. It was rebuilt a year ago and is getting stronger and best of all it is 5 min from my house.

this is it. you cant see much from the pics but it gives an idea.

Just wish you could try differnt positions, but they only allow that during the matches.

Re: Need a good bench rest tripod

I'd say caldwell is the low end of benchrest front supports. Ask at the range, i'm sure there are others who use a front rest. To improve results many replace the generic rest pad with one that fits the bottom profile of the rifle's forearm.

Good Luck

Re: Need a good bench rest tripod

Depends on how much you want to spend.. Ive got the Farley CoAx rest and a Kinneman's custom rest.. Its like a Hart rest. Even bet yet is the SEB rest. Take a look at Sinclair INTL or bruno shooters for some better ones. If you dont want to spend too much, the caldwell is OK but after awhile of rangetime, you will wish you spent more on a nicer unit.

Just my 2 cents...
