Hey guys. No one around here wants my cash and every time I ask I just get a buttload of whinny hem-hawing.

Can someone point me in the direction of a smith on here that can give me a really good re-barrel on a comp rifle. It’s a Howa 1500 that was built, trued, tattooed and all by S&S. Need a straight, or almost, taper around 1-1.2 ish at finish, stainless at about 26-27 inches and threaded. It’s currently 260 but leaning towards going to 6gt with it. If you know someone or if you are that someone, please hit me up. I would like to arrange to get it on the way ASAP. Rifle is sweet and action runs flawless. Just time to make a move and improve and get this rolling so I can get it broken in and sighted in before spring. Thanks!

I ordered a Preffered Barrels Blank remage style and did it myself. All you need is a go & no-go gauge and the internet. Piece of Cake!

You need to talk to this place: https://www.shortactioncustoms.com/

Or buy a barrel and nut from Preferred Barrel Blanks, Criterion Barrels, or McGowan Barrels and do it yourself.

So I'm guessing the Howa 1500 action is a Remington 700 clone? That's good news for me since I'll be replacing a 22-250 barrel on one at some point down the road. Sitting at about 600 rds on it currently and I've got one custom remage build under my belt so far.

    Your guess is wrong

The top of the Howa receiver is shaped the same as a 700, so Remington two piece bases will fit. Nothing else is even remotely alike between the two.

And no, M700 one piece bases will not fit a Howa. The distance between the receiver bridges is not the same. You need a one piece base made specifically for the 1500.

yep, more in common with Weatherby actions IIRC

That's another huge misconception. Weatherby has one action design: the Mark V. The Howa 1500 has nothing in common with it either.

The Weatherby Vanguard is not a Weatherby. It's a rebranded Howa 1500. I think Weatherby buys the barrelled actions and puts them in stocks of its own design, but that's about the extent of Weatherby content in those rifles.
