Gunsmithing Need a Smith for AICS mag modification for 300 RUM

Re: Need a Smith for AICS mag modification for 300 RUM

Have you tried 300rum in an un-modified 338 mag yet?
It should be a pretty simple job to bring each lip in 0.015".
I say it's simple, but that's probably because I have a special pair of 1.5" wide flat jawed pliers I use for mag lips...

That's not the problem. The shoulder is too far forward and hits the re-enforcement rib in the magazine. I saw the pic's in another thread of the ribs milled out but, all they said was someone named Stacey did it and I saw he hasn't posted since 2010.

I would like to see more, and how on this because non of the AI mags in 338 LM will work with the 300 RUM. The reinforcement ribs pressed into the sides of the box don't allow the brass to be loaded. How did they make it work, or is there a different brand mag??

If you can, please show close up pics of yours, as there are a lot of misinformed people like me that would like to see it. Thanks

Mile High in Colorado takes out the pressed in rib of the 338, or if you have a skilled hand you can do the same. I forgot they milled out the small spot on the reinforcement rib.

That was probably stacey blankenship, the AI us rep.

Re: Need a Smith for AICS mag modification for 300 RUM

I don't know what's the deal with mine, but I run 8mm Remington Magnum in a AICS 338 CIP with no problem. I had to bend the feed lips a bit but no issues with a reinforcing rib. The shoulders are in the same place. I'll look at it and post a picture.
