I have a mcrees precision T mag short action folding stock. I am going to purchase a surgeon 591 reciever in .308, I also have a gift certificate for a free krieger barrel. I'm thinking about getting a 16" #5 contour barrel and put a SureFire brake on it. I plan on shooting this mainly suppressed. I'll probably be shooting Lapua 220grain subsonic. I am unsure of the optimum rifle twist. Can anyone give me some advice?

My barreld action should be in my hands sometime next week. I am still waiting on my can and my manners t4 though. I went with an 8 twist barrel finished at 16.75 inches. My intentions with this rifle were subsonic only but I'm hoping to have success with supersonic loads. Only time will tell.

Also check on the DTA thread here on the hide, I think its on page 13 about half way down, Fredo has a nice write up on DTA's new covert model it has an 8 twist 16 inch barrel that they tested and had really good results with super and subsonic ammunition.
