Need help identifying a rifle.

My neighbor just brought over a rifle that he just bought and I think I can get a good deal on it. Here's the info on what I know about it:

Remington 700 BDL
.308
26" Heavy barrel
Old style trigger (groves on the trigger)
Stock has an aluminum bedding block, Black with gray web, looks like my HS Prec. stock but with less palm swell and a remington butt pad.

I was going to try to get a pic of it but didn't want to look suspicious. Anyone know what it is or what they are really worth?

Suspicious? good deal?... sounds like bad friend parlance for shady and taking advantage.

My guess is an older VSF model or something along those lines.

Not shady. This guy buys and sells like I change socks. He has a friend that owns a little pawn shop. He doesn't know much about firearms but tells everyone he's an expert (you know the type). He's know for his "stories and tall tales". He told me he gave $300 for it and it already has an older model Leupold 3-9x40 scope and Leupold rings.

SS Barrel ? Fluted ? Then it could be a VSSF early version. Some were tack drivers and came with 26" .
