I was at the range yesterday I only shot 50 rounds but of these 50 I had 3 failure to extract. I believe this was not do to a failure of the firearm but bad reloading. The extractor still had hold of the case but the case seemed stuck in the chamber, only after pounding the charging handle with a solid object did the round come out. There was a fourth round stuck in the chamber that the extractor completely tore the rim off of.

background information,
3rd time shooting the brass
shooting a M1A scout
I use Lee reloading equipment.

Re: Need help troubleshooting an issue

Could be pressure, could be headspace, dirty chamber, etc...

I'm with Greg, need some data on your loads and what your brass looks like...

Does this happen with factory loads?

You get an A for persistence. I think I would have stopped with the first one? Have you ever trimmed the necks on these cases? BB

Re: Need help troubleshooting an issue

try resizing those cases that jammed up , if you size them and they still jam your gun up , you might need a small base sizing die

could be something else

Sorry I guess I left out all the important information.
Bullets were Tubbs final finish solution, I believe there are 175gr
Powder 35 gr of Varget.

Yes I do trim the case length using the Lee trimmer
I do size the neck with a Lee Die.

You need to full length resize brass for the semi autos.
particularly the ones with floating firing pins.
It is one of the causes of a slamfire.
You need about.003-.004 shoulder set back.
and keep your chamber clean.
that should cure your problem.
