SJshooter, is right....You can do so much more, with the Rem.
And they are lots of aftermarket stuff, out their.
The Rem. are accurate out of the box. I think you will B much happier with the Rem.

One more for the remington. I have a sps in 300 win mag and its a good rifle. No fantasy story nothing great and amazing but for the price its a good rifle. And as far as if you want to upgrade farther down the road you would already have the action and its 10X easier to get stuff aftermarket wise for the remington. Go with the remmi you wont be dissapointed.

Dan,
before you spend that much, check out Dicks sporting goods in Brandon and at the Citrus Park malls. They always have them on sale for around $499.00. Best price has been $399.00 about 8 months ago.

BTW, congrat's on the divorce present. I did the same thing two years ago after 25 years. Smartest decision I ever made.

I got the 50" plasma and 32" LCD TV's first. Then a Remington VSSF in 220 Swift, then a Caddillac CTS, and am up to around 12 new guns since then...

I wish the Dicks sporting goods around here had rem 700s that cheap. Last time I checked they were "on sale" for $549. Im heading up there this weekend to see whats going on,but I doubt theyre any cheaper.
