I have just purchased a new rifle
Specs

Savage-McMillan Stock fcp10
Scope- Burris Tactical 8-24 xtr
warren rings and one piece mount

Went to the range today to sight in and break in barrel

After firing 5 rounds and cleaning to start the break in I tried to sight in the rifle
After all said and done, it is shooting 8in to the right from pt of aim and the scope had no more left ajustment left

All the rings and mount screws are tight. I dont know what to do I am fairly new to rifle shooting, people at the range told me to move or swap the rings back to front and put screws on other side to see if it moves the pt of aim
I did not have time to do that today will try later this week does anyone have any other ideas what to do

Re: Need Help With New Rifle

do you have another scope of any type that you can mount up? dont worry yet. do what the guys said with the rings first if you dont have a second scope. you can also pull the bolt and look thru the bore at an object and try adjusting the scope to that point of aim. sounds like the scope, is it new or have you used it before?

Re: Need Help With New Rifle

try the old school bore sighting deal, but i think you have proven the results with that scope. try another scope or doing the ring thing with this scope. maybe swap out rings with a known good set

Re: Need Help With New Rifle(updated need help please)

I tried a new scope no luck still shot 9in to the right
i moved the rings back to front and put the screws on the opposite side
Please what else can it be
I guess i can try new mount and rings but could it also be the rifle barrel not true to the receiver or the mount holes not drilled not even with the barrel
Every thing looks square the scope doesnt look off center or the barrel either
This is realy my first tactical rifle and i am not really happy right now

Re: Need Help With New Rifle(updated need help please)

Toss the Warne rings and get some that are windage adjustable.

Optically zero the scope while it's off and then boresight using the rough adjustment of the rings to correct for windage initially.

You'll use very little internal windage adjustment and also increase your usable elevation by doing it this way.

Re: Need Help With New Rifle(updated need help please)

it really sounds like the rings, scope and base are ok. you swapped rings front to back and still shot the same way too? i would give savage a call and tell them what you have done so far and that see what they say. i think you are right about the holes. do you have any type of caliper or just a good ruler? you can pull the action and set it against a straight flat anythng. a wall, a cabinet, then using the ruler agaist the whatever, see if all the holes are the same distance from that surface. you can even leave the base on and measure to the edge of the base. try that. pm me and ill give you my number and we can talk it over. but if it wasnt the scope, wasnt the rings... bet its not a base, but its gotta be the holes. unless its something else. but try the measuring first. the sides of the receiver should be true, the wall should be true, you will know when you put the receiver against it.

windage adjustable rings will work, but every time you have to take the scope off, its gonne need recentering depending on the rings
