Alright everybody I've been around lots of 22s and love my 243 and take out the 30-06 occasionally for memories but I've gotten into longer ranges but was held at around 300 yds from my optics but I jumped on europtics sale of the vortex razors. Where I need advice is i want to mount it on my howa action. It's a factory 243 that I plan to add onto later a heavy barrel. What would my best bet rail and ring wise where there is no clearance issues with best results. I feel good at 500 but with the new optics like to push that once I rechamber it. Thanks guys

Let me try to help you. First, I don't know what rifle you have other than Howa; I don't know what contour Heavy barrel you plan on putting on; and I have no idea what scope you bought on sale@ Europtics other than it's a Vortex Razor. I could guess, but I might guess wrong or I may recommend something way above or below your budget. So let's not waste your time and ours.

So here's how you should have asked this question....The following are just made up hypothetical's.

Hi,

I have a Howa Short Action Sporter in .243 Winchester, that I plan on re-barreling with a Remington Varmint Contour Blank to be chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have also just ordered a Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50mm Scope from Europtics. Which rings and bases do you recommend?? My budget for rings and bases is $300.

Thanks,

My apologies it is a short action howa in 243 with sporter barrel and you nailed rem varmint contour but looking to stay in .243win it is the 5-20x50 razor. And as far as budget goes I like quality vs cheap price unless one works just as we'll for less then I go with aesthetics I like the nice look. Just unsure on what brands are better in this area or what base is best for longer ranges or it makes a difference.

My apologies those are things I don't think about haha my first build. Only hunted but my coyote hunting is taking over and don't have expensive callers so need extra range

OK. Not a whole bunch of bases made for the Howa SA. So the usual recommendation of Badger, Nightforce, or Seekins bases does not apply, as none of those fine makers have bases for the Howa.

But here is a good one by Ken Karrell: Howa 1500 Short Action I'd get the 10 MOA one but either will work with 36 Milrads of adjustment available in the Vortex Razor HD.

As far as rings any 35mm 1" tall rings like these Vortex Optics - Razor HD 35mm Rings 1.00 Inch will work fine and give you plenty of clearance. Seekins Precision also makes fine 35mm in the correct size.
