Folks,
I’m just about ready to move up a nudge and purchase my first custom precision rifle. Most of my experience has been with the 223 caliber rifles, but it’s time to move up in caliber. At first my first choice was some type of 308 configurations, but recently I've grown an interest in the 6.5 x47 Lapua cartridge. I've had no luck finding information on this cartridge in the forum, so I’m interested in reading what your experience has been with this caliber. Any information you can send my way will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure exactly what you want to know about the 6.5x47. Go to www.6mmbr.com and look in the forums there. That is without a doubt...your best source from shooters with first hand experience with the 6.5x47.

My experience..It is an Awesome round if you are looking for great ballistics to 1000 yards with very minimal recoil. Brass prices are up close to a buck a piece, but the brass lasts dozens of firings if you don't overload it.

What? Have you looked? Don't take this the wrong way but there is A LOT of info on the 6.5x47 in the forum, to much to even read.

Click search, type in 6.5x47 and hit "GO". You'll get 8 pages of threads.

Thanks for the links guys.
The more I learn about this round the more I’m leaning towards this configuration.
If anybody has a rifle chambered in this caliber, Could you please share your rifle's Specs?

Thanks again.

My 600 yard bench gun is in that caliber. Stiller Viper drop port, Krieger barrel, and Shehane Tracker stock. Current weight is 14# 10oz. Great setup in that I can shoot it free recoil, but it still has a better trejectory than my .308. I'm fairly certain that when the barrel on my .308 is shot out I will be putting it in the 6.5x47. Running 130 VLDs at about 2950

Just posted this on another thread but what the hell...this is what you could expect. I'm happy with it.

Re: Need info on 6.5 x 47 lapua!

Ammo is a good bit higher. I was thinking about doing the same thing but factory Lapua ammo is like 48-50 dollars a box. You can get ALMOST twice as much 308. I have shot one in 6.5x47 and has a good bit less recoil and is fun as hell to shoot. Flatter trajectory as well. I guess ammo dosen't really matter if your gonna reload or if your financially well off. Also most of the guns in that caliber that I have seen run a 24-28 inch barrel. I just like the 18-22 inch 308's for lang range and portability. My 2 cent.

Re: Need info on 6.5 x 47 lapua!

I have a build coming;
Surgeon SA
Manners T4A
Lilja 3R 8 twist tube I reckon I will make it 27" or 28"
NXS 5-25x50 MLR .1 Mil adj.
CANT WAIT to get this gun.

I usually go overboard with caliber and I needed a non-barrel burning smaller rifle so I bought the Short action first and settled on this round. A friend had one done I did not like it at first but I thought in the end that it is a VERY practical round for many uses here in Australia. I sold a .243 win to help fund this.

Stiller TAC30 action
24 x 1/8" Bartlein 5R (medium Palma)
Manners T3
Surgeon bottom metal
0.160" throat

My testing has started with 130g Berger VLDs, but I can't seem to find anymore right now. In the meantime, I'm starting to test 140g Hornady A-maxs. H4350 is my powder of choice.

Here are my measured velocites with 130g VLDs (0.010" off lands) My accuracy node has proved to be around 2750 fps with H4350 using both the 130g and 140g loads. I'm sure there is a another accuracy node that is a bit faster, but I'm happy with going easy on my expensive brass.
