I'm waiting on the PTG “Stealth” M5 bottom metal to arrive and decided to look for a magazine or two. Since the Rem 700SA SPS Tac is more a range gun than anything, I think I'd like to stick to a steel-bodied magazine for the sake of durability, unless someone convinces me the aluminum ones are better.
I've searched the site and couldn't find a comparison of the various, Reliable, M5/AICS-compatible mags on the market, so I was hoping you guys could help me out.
Alpha Type 1, steel ($64)
Alpha Type 2, ($65, found a post recommending using a Dremel to modify/create a feed ramp, but will need to research it some more)
Ruger GSR made by Alpha ($65). It seems people are snatching these -- or Ruger made ones -- up in the Post Exchange, so I assume they work reliably in a Rem700 with M5-style bottom metal.
AI AICS, aluminum body, ($67, 5 rd)
Any others? Does Ruger make their own?
Are they all reliable?
Can anyone specify what the follower materials are (plastic vs. metal)?
Lastly, are the 10-rounders just as reliable as the 5-rounders? I'm leaning towards two 5-rounders, for the sake of parts interchangeability, or one of each.
Thanks in advance!
