(Listed bike for sale. Thanks guys for the opinions.)

This is way off the long range shooting topic but there are plenty of folks on here Whose opinions I value so I figured I would ask here. I have already asked this question at the Concours Owners Group website, and the answer was pretty surprising to me.

I'm about to put My motorcycle up for sale, and am trying to determine if the custom stereo system installed in the dash would make her more desirable, and add any significant value. The bike pictured in My small avatar picture is the one in question. At this point, I'm leaning heavily toward reinstalling the original dashboard and using the Clarion stereo in My Jeep.

If answers on here lean more toward people liking a scoot with tunes though, I'll probably advertise it with the stereo, and let the original parts go with the bike.

Hope this subject isn't to boring for folks. I could sure use some input.

Thanks folks.

Re: off topic: Need motorcycle opinions

I'd leave it, with the economy the way it is, its a good selling feature and could make the difference of landing a quick buyer. Plus how how much you really saving by taking it out. You can go buy a real nice radio for 150$

Re: off topic: Need motorcycle opinions

Well...It would be a lot of work taking it out and reinstalling the original stuff. That by itself is reason enough to leave it installed. That's a good point about being able to get a decent stereo for 150.

Re: off topic: Need motorcycle opinions

What is the mark up with the stereo over without? If the value of the bike does not go up significantly to cover the cost of the stereo, take it off.

With most bike aftermarket parts, the price does not go up significantly with the extra stuff. Most of the time you will make more money if you sell that stuff on a forum where people are looking for those specific aftermarket parts.

I have never dealt with bikes with stereos, so I don't know if that would be a large selling point. I hope what I did write helped a little though.

Cheers
Andrew

I would say it would be buyer dependent. Advertise is as priced with and without the stereo...leave the stereo in and when they take it for a test drive, have em experience the stereo while riding.

Financially thinking, you wont see much difference at all if any with the inclusion of the stereo, however it may help move the bike much faster.

Multiple "farkles" on a bike can sometimes help it hold value but the harsh reality is that most owner add-ons don't really add to the cash that you can collect when you sell the bike.

Based on my personal experiences with buying and selling bikes, I would leave the stereo in the bike only because it's too big of a pain in the ass to remove it....but know that I wasn't going to be able to use it as a strong selling point. YMMV. </div></div>
Thanks Tex. Makes a lot of sense.

Re: off topic: Need motorcycle opinions

On a touring bike, or a bike that is ridden mile after mile on the superslab, a stereo is good stuff. When I was running my Sporty at just under 4k rpm down the tarmac in the cold, I was having serious fantasy's about a red geezer glide with a loud stereo and hand warming grips

Re: off topic: Need motorcycle opinions

I do the sportbike thing, but the biggest selling point to my current bike was that it was dead stock. Often, the mods that you think are perfect are just a little different than the next owner wants. Remove it and offer it as an addition, and if the next owner doesn't want to pay for it, sell it separately.

Re: off topic: Need motorcycle opinions

I started taking out the stereo today. Gonna go back with the stock dash. I'll clean up the custom dash I made and sell it separately. That way I'll get My labor back outta making the darned thing. It was a pain in the rear end to say the least.
