So I loaded up some groups with said components. I do not have a Chrono; yes, it is my next purchase. All groups fired at 100 yrs, cause that's what I've got at home and it's raining. Any suggestions on which charge to load would be appreciated. I'm new to ladder development, but I think, as an amateur, I can guess which one looks best. I use this rifle for HD, paper and steel pounding, and coy dogs when needed. Groups are top to bottom, left to right, starting at 24gr and going by .3 to 26.1. Edit to add that the high ball on the 26.1 group I'm sure was me rushing the trigger, saw it when I pulled. Thanks fellas

I run 24.4gr Varget with a 205 primer. Standard short range service rifle load, been used 20+ years. This should shoot and have a pretty wide node up or down. You'll probably need to shoot several groups with each load as gas guns are not as easy to pattern as a bolt rifle, at least not for me.

I would probably shoot two or three 5 shot groups with 23.6, 24.0, 24.4 and 24.8. You should find a sweet spot, and from your pics 24.4 is going to be it.

24gr and 24.3 seem to have the least vertical spread, which I believe is what I'm looking for. Sierra manual says their "accuracy" load was 25.3, but my 25.2 and 25.8 had the most vertical spread. 25.5 was close, couldve been me. Manual says 24.1 should be in the 2600fps range. I'm assuming that's plenty fast? Again, chrono is my next buy, other than more ammo and components

I think you’re on the right track looking at where the point of impact is consistent between loads. I would probably load 39.4-24.4 in .1 increments just to make sure what you’re seeing is repeatable and doesn’t suddenly shit the bed right in the middle.

Alright fellas, back again with my .223 and an update. I did another charge test using the same components as before: Varget, CCI 400, 69gr SMK. I'll preface this by saying, mind my groups please, I'm coming off of having 4 teeth pulled, aquiring some mystery sickness, and losing 18lbs, all throughout the last 3 weeks. Plus it was like 25 degrees this am. So I was a little cold, and my trigger time has been lacking with this weapon. I recently acquired a Shooting Chrony Beta, and from what I have used of it, I like it. But I also think that watching the new data stream before my eyes, it also took away from my group focus. I guess I could've just kept shooting and recorded later, but I recorded every shot, causing me to break form every time. Regardless, heres the photo, I will type the information if it is unreadable.

I started at 24gr, and worked to 24.4 in .1 increments looking to replicate any of the results from my prior test. I'm not sure what "acceptable" numbers are for my setup; I know in a good prs setup, guys are shooting for single digit SD. Best I saw today was SD of 16 and ES of 41.26. I'm wondering if I shouldve ignored previous test and shot for a higher node. All I'm looking for is reliable, repeatable, and accurate out to 6-700, realistically 5-600 being most feasible accessibility wise. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

So I loaded up 10 round groups of 24.1, and 24.3. Yesterday, with 5 rounds, the 24.3 yielded ES of 43.9 and SD of 18.4. Today, the same 24.3 yielded ES of 96 and SD of 28.6. Ouch, big change. So I loaded the 24.1; yesterday with 5 rounds getting ES of 41.2 and SD of 16, today, with 10 rounds, yielded ES of 44.6 and SD of 15. I think I'm going to work with the 24.1 load. They are currently loaded to mag length using pmag. Am I on the right track chasing the lower numbers? Average velocity was 2600 with the 24.1gr

Personally when developing a load for moderate distances(500 yards or less) I don’t give a crap about ES/SD, just accuracy.

I absolutely love the 69smk but it’s definitely not a great lond distance bullet and my favorite load with it isn’t impressive in the ES/SD dept but doesn’t need to be, it shoots very well with an easy to find powder that meters like water.
