Need Trigger Recommendation for Origin 6.5 CM Build

Looking for some suggestions from the trigger experts here.

I recently purchased a bighorn origin SA from Southern Precision Rifles and they are currently chambering a 24" proof 6.5CM blank for me for this build. This barreled action which will be dropped into my KRG Xray. This build replaced my B14 HMR which I just sold (it was a great rifle but it was time to upgrade).

I would like to have Southern Precision rifles install a new trigger for me so that the barreled action is ready to go once I get back this winter. That said, I really dont know much about triggers. I was fine with the stock bergara trigger in the HMR, have a 4lb timney in my 700 .308 that i like, and do not consider myself a trigger afficionado.

I have no idea what trigger to choose for this build. The shop has a number of options and I just dont know which one to get (link below).

Main purpose for this rifle will be slapping steel at long range, occasional prs matches, and maybe an occasional hunt. I do not need a hair trigger and want something that would be safe to occasionally carry in the woods while being nice enough for a prs match. What do you guys reccomend? Perhaps a triggertech set at 3lb? School me please :cool:

I have two Timney 510s set to 1.5 lbs and I like them and I like that weight.

But @lowlight and Marc Taylor suggest 2-3 lbs as light enough but not too light. The first element of trigger control according to Marc Taylor is to firmly marry your trigger finger to the trigger and then press the trigger back to the wall. That’s why they like 2-3 lbs; it’s light enough to still break clean without much effort but firm enough to allow you to marry up without it breaking.

I bought a Triggertech Special here on the Hide for my next 6cm build but I’ll dial it to 1.5 lbs like my Timneys just for consistency.

interesting thoughts there, makes sense! I dont see myself going below 3, 2.5 at lowest, 3 just sounds good

Plenty of good 3lb triggers. Go with the brand that has worked good for you in the past. Tt and Timney has several. You might wanna get one that will lighten up for you if 2-3Lbs isn’t your cup of bourbon. Just saying

I've got my TriggerTech Specials set to 1.5 lbs. Love those triggers! Had a TriggerTech Diamond for a while but did not see a need for that light a pull for my kind of shooting, so I sold it but for competition they are tops.

I’m a tt supporter and really like the single stage Diamond. I decided to give a 2 stage a try a few days ago. After looking at several triggers from different manufacturers I ordered a Timney Calvin Elite 2 stage #532. I’m not affiliated with them if anyone is wondering. They have Timney elite hunters for a hundred bucks for you guys that like 3Lb triggers. They have others at great prices too. Thought I would pass the word on these deals.

is two stage vs single stage a simple shooter preference or is there some sort of advantage to two stage? Most of my experience is with single stage triggers, though i have tried a larue MBT two stage on an AR that was pretty nice

I don’t know anything about the darn things. From what I’ve read the first stage of a 2 stage seems like creep in a single stage trigger. Many other shooters have great things to say about 2 stage triggers so I wanted to give them a try. I believe that I need to spend more time shooting rifles with triggers I’m not use to. It adds a little twist to things and keeps you proficient so you don’t have to blame your equipment for missed shots. 😂

Personal preference, some like single stage, some two stage. Just like some like curved, some like straight (flat) trigger shoes. A quality trigger will deliver whether it is a single, or two stage; a crappy trigger will diminish accuracy. I hate to repeat an old cliche but you get what you pay for, especially for triggers; although with some brands it doesn't matter you'll always overpay. Never had a problem with TriggerTech.

It does to me too. I wonder if someone who uses 2 stage triggers could tell one from a single stage with pretravel not adjusted out. Hopefully I’ll know the answer to this and many other trigger questions after I give a 2 stage a chance to prove it’s self.

Last I checked Trudeau wasn't associated with TriggerTech, I'm sure TriggerTech isn't all too happy about having their domestic market eliminated by their government as well. I also guess since Bix'n Andy is a German company where ARs are also not available they're out for you too, and so is Accuracy International since the U.K. has an all out firearms ban. MDT is also Canadian, as are Cadex, and Tenebraex. Some parts of our own country have bans but if you are interested to pursue that line of thinking further you should take it to the Sniper's Hide Bear Pit forum, more appropriate there, we're just trying to help the OP by mentioning what's available.

I really like TriggerTech triggers too but my Timney’s have been every bit as good. I stumbled across that site looking for a 2 stage that wasn’t $2-$300 and I’m tempted to buy a few more of them. 👍
