Re: Need XLR Evolution range report
I took my XLR rifle to the range today to try out my R&D Precision rifles brake.
Here is the pertinent info:
Remington 700 XCR Long Range Tactical 26"
300wm, fusion 150gr
$50 simmons with VDC 500 yard turret
XLR chassis
Enidine "Shot Stock" Tube, magpul MOE stock, limbsaver grind to fit pad
R&D brake
Very still day,
Shot off of my backpack on the bench... no bipod or bags.
4 rounds at 570 yards (I previously was told it was 500, but there was a really nice guy there with a Bushnell ARC 1600 it was 575, so I played with them a bit and verified. I want those binocs!).
I took 4 shots, which was enough considering the range has been a swamp lately. There were a few knee deep spots and many huge blobs of mosquito larvae. 2 trips down was enough.
First shot, cold bore with aprox 12" holdover since my turret stops at 500 yards. Yes, I have tiny hands, which everyone knows means... I wear tiny gloves. Yeah yeah bad joke, back to my half ass range report.
3 round group aprox 3.25 inches 12in below center:
Here is the best part. The rifle kicks like an ar15. You can feel the movement and a substantial push, but no "punch". My pre-64 model 94 30-30 has MUCH sharper and more uncomfortable recoil. This is more like an m1 carbine. I was concerned that my recoil management mods (especially the enidine) may affect consistency. Considering the ammo, "tactical" rest (standard backpack) and of course the shooter, I am very pleased and know there is room for improvement as well. Plus, I could shoot this thing all day VERY comfortably! I cant wait to get some 208 amax's loaded and see what happens, but since right now 575yds is my longest readily available range I need to stick with the cheapest stuff I can find and save my $ for a good optic.
But, if any of you experienced reloaders will sell me say 10-20 rounds of 208, pm me.
Back to the XLR...
Besides the features and price point I went with the XLR for 2 main reasons. The first was my plan to construct full length suppressor that extends back to the action (my uncle is a class 2 mfg, but I still need to get my stamp and havent started the project yet) and the XLR design is perfect for it. The second reason was to run the Enidine. So far things are going as well and the XLR is a beautifully made platform that has allowed me to do exactly what I planned. The rifle shot well with its OEM B&C aluminum bedded stock to begin with. I had very close to the same size group with 165gr fusion (within 1/4 in @575), but also shot that group quite heavily fortified with sand bags. I dont really have lots of hard data... judge for yourself.
