I am wanting to get into reloading and have no experience doing so. Is there a thread on all of the necessary equipment I would need to purchase to get started that someone could post or your comments would be greatly appreciated. I was considering purchasing a Hornady Lock and Load Kit for around $300 and going from there but would like your educated advice. Thank you for your patience with a prospective reloader.

Re: Never loaded before...

I started reloading less than a year ago with the hornady LNL and am very pleased with it.

Go to the top of the reloading forum and there are several stickies with a wealth of info.

Personally, I would go with RCBS as they have a pretty strong presence in most sporting goods stores and as such you will be able to get the billion or so little nic-nacks you'll want to get.

I do not know what your buying potential is but if I could go back in time and give myself advice about what to buy I would save up and buy this kit to start with. I bought the $329 RCBS kit and ended up buying all the other stuff in this kit anyway.

RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Deluxe Reloading Kit

The Charge Master and Trim Mate are awsome time savers. Add to this kit a set of Calipers and you are off and running. Of course there will always be little odds and ends to pick up too.

For dies I like Redding Type S Match Bushing 2-Die Set the best with the Competition Seater and the Bushing Style Full Lenght resizing die.

As a new reloader I'd also suggest starting with the Rock Chucker kit as starting with a progressive can be pretty daunting for someone just starting to reload. The Rockchuker can be used later for any number of tasks. Mine hs a Dillon 1200 power trim on it.

Re: Never loaded before...

I dont know what your going to be loading for but if its for rifle accuracy I would highly recommend a book called "Precision Shooting Reloading Guide" I think you can get it from Sinclair, it has great info and gear discussions on all of the popular rifle styles of shooting i.e. benchrest, highpower etc. It also explains all of the processes of each so you can figure out what and how your going to "Roll your own". I suggest this cause it explains different types of reloading gear and their uses so it will give you an idea of what type of gear you will need depending on what kind of shooting you will be doing. Its also a great reference guide to have on your bench.
