As the title implies, I’m interested in replacing the barrel on my Nosler M48 “Western” which happens to be chambered for the 26 Nosler. I bought the rifle to primarily use as a hunting rifle but I also wanted to be able to enjoy recreationally shooting at long range targets. This remains my intention for the rifle.
I love everything about the rifle except the factory Pac-Nor barrel. According to the specifications, the barrel is SS and “match grade” but the profile is thin and it’s aggressively fluted so it gets hot very quickly and starts to scatter rounds if you shoot more than 3-4 times without 3- 5 minutes between shots. In addition to that, the gun will shoot sub-MOA with 140gr Accubonds ONLY which is really annoying considering those are harder to find and more expensive than Nosler’s “Custom Competition” target ammo.
I’ve talked to Krieger and they were extremely helpful in regards to which type of contour to replace it with. That being said, I did want to reach out to this community and see if anyone has replaced a barrel on a 26 Nosler and if so, which company did you use and what specifications did you go with?
