I think the time has come to rebarrel my semi auto. She shoots great out to about 600yards with 62gr m855 and the 69gr SMK I'm loading, but it just has too much drop and inconsistency at 700+. The 77gr is a bit heavy for my 1:9. Set up is currently a 20" non chrome lined heavy barrel from Anderson with a rifle length gas system and buffer. I'm leaning towards a 1:8/1:8.5 in barrel roughly 20", but may go a bit longer to ensure I get a complete burn of my powder. Prolly going to stick with non chrome lined cold hammer forged. Krieger, JP super match, noveske, and shilen are my current considerations. Strictly a bench rifle, so weight doesn't matter, and I'm curious to hear what options you guys have tried with good success out at extreme ranges for a traditional ar15 platform. Considering the chamber in .223 wylde vs 5.56. All opinions welcome!
