New Guy confused on which Atlas Bipod to get

Greetings All, New member here, I am just starting out in centerfire target shooting. Been shooting on and off for 55 years. Now I have the time and bought a Tikka T3X Tac A1 and scope and want to get a nice bipod but I am confused on which model Atlas to buy and how it will mount to rifle. Anyone with experience I sure would appreciate your input. I am thinking BT46-LW17 but am open to any options that would land me under $400 total.

Basically PSR is heavier duty and legs don't rotate (spin) over the V8

From their website:

When the Atlas was selected for the USSOCOM Sniper Rifle system, the Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) Atlas Bipod was created in response to feedback received from Military testing. These changes include non-rotating outer legs, fore and aft pivot limiting bosses (two pegs that help keep the muzzle level when loading a rifle to the bipod) and a 40% stronger inner leg. All models still include 15 degrees +/- of preloaded Pan and 15 degrees +/- of preloaded Cant. The five leg positions are 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 degrees. Compare Atlas Bipods.

Attached is some info and comparison chart of all of their bipods from a previous thread. Basically short answer is PSR (BT46 or BT47) is preferred by me over V8 (BT10) and 47 has longer legs than the 46.

I prefer the PSR model as it stays nearly vertical. Pair the mount to what ever you need.
I mounted mine with the RRS Acra mount.

Part of my confusion is how do I mount to underside of the Tikka, do I get a small section of rail and mount that to rifle , then mount bipod to rail section. I am missing something simple here.

Not familiar with your rifle but it looks to me that it uses an M-LOK forend. You will need an adapter that BT Industries sells. BT makes the ATLAS. I would give their CS a quick call and you will be all set.

I'm a plain old Atlas BT-10 man...get the appropriate system for mounting to your rifle/chassis/stock and you'll stay under $500. I have two of them and have no complaints.

This is a good way to go-I have a bolt rifle with an Atlas direct mounted. For my AR platform rifles however I have a small section of 1913 picatinny rail mounted up front on each and then I bought the Atlas with quick detach so then I can quickly mount and use on all of my ARs.

Im almost in the same boat. Im having a custom walnut stock made for my Tikka T3x. I called BT and talked to them. Im going with an 14 inch Area 419 Area rail with a PSR1-46-LW, with a PSR ADM 170-S lever. I plan mainly shooting off of a tripod for coyotes while sitting. (Old Guy).

If your going with an ARCA rail that ADM mount won’t work.

Your gonna need the Area 429 mount or the RRS mount for atlas.

I have a 1st gen CAL on my LSS-XL, mounted with a Magpul cantilever rail. The rail comes out almost flush with the end of the forend, although it does raise the mounting point up (well, down, raises the rifle up) about 1/4". I tried a plain MLOK rail and it works fine, I just preferred having it forward more than closer to the barrel.

I don't have near as much issue with the CAL as others have, I bought it knowing I was getting a free-pivoting, hard locking bipod, not expecting a sprung cant like a Harris or thinking I'd be able to have it semi-locked but moveable. I did my own mods (PTFE washer on the pivot point) as well as the update they sent out, and I'll probably send it in next year for the G2 upgrade, but it's perfectly usable IMO.

It should be here tomorrow or Wednesday, sadly the rifle went back to warranty service for issues with top rail so it will be weeks before I have the bipod on the Tikka. Guess I will get set up for reloading in meantime.

I think if i had to do it all over agin, I would of went with the Tac. I would of rebarreled it to what I have now. 6-284. I like the 2 stage trigger and he mag set up of the Tac. Im happy with my T3x tho, but I'm always wondering 'what if?'
Did you get a Yo-Dave trigger spring for your Tac yet? I got one, and was able to go to just under 2 lbs. I would;d like to get a Bix'N Andy for it someday.
I think if I really did have to do it all over, i would go with a John Hancock, and rocks it to till the graveyard!
