That's essentially what a thermal imaging sight is. So, it's only a matter of time.

So when drawing the crosshairs on with a Sharpie, do I draw them on the lens or on the viewfinder?

Lens that way it is a FFP

If you draw it on your shooting glasses you upgrade to the model with a HUD. That way you can curve the rounds to the target just like in the movies.
