So, to start, I am being offered a Range Master course so that I can teach LEO's at my office how to shoot and hold our Range Qual days. Cost is hard to pass up (free) and does not have an impact on my time off from work (done in my free time). One requirement was a pump shotgun, either a Rem 870 or Mossberg 500. I looked, and tried to find one on the inexpensive, but could not find one in my budget ($450).
Called my local gun finder, and he said that anything with the word "tactical" is getting harder to get. BUT, he did have a Rem 870 12 guage bird gun, a Wingmaster model, with an extremely LONG barrel. For a slight fee ($100), I brought it home. (The kitteh is not impressed. No tactical in sight anywhere.)
Did some digging on Brownells, and have an extension tube, new stock, forend, and ghost ring sights coming, all just under $400. My thought is that I will likely not use the shotgun for duty as we are assigned them, I would use it for multigun use as well. Why not, right?
Will post up some pics of this long barreled beasty tomorrow. Gun is basically unfired. Stock is beat, looks like it was a "back seat" gun.
Should be a cool toy when done.
