MarkII TR with a Tasco 6-24X42mm. I'm a hunter and want to improve my shooting so I got this TR to help me learn to shoot. I shot 50 of each today...Wolf Match Target, CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Subsonic, Federal Lightening, and Remington SunSonic. Basically I need a lot of help but managed this target as my best. The rest were over an inch. The wind was gusty so I'll blame that. I enjoy reading and learning here; it's a great site.

Re: New MarkII TR and target

Looks sharp. Congrats!!!

Mine loves Wolf Match Extra best.

This is a three shot pre-zero group at 50 yards. I run Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32 and Weaver rings.

Re: New MarkII TR and target

Thanks VYD. I'm using Millet rings because I needed some windage adjustment due to the base holes being slightly mis drilled.

Your target is beautiful and thats what I'm working for.

I noticed when I ejected the Wolf that it has a distinctive smell compared to the other ammo I used.

Re: New MarkII TR and target

I have the same rifle to work on technique. I love it. Today was my first day putting some time in on it. I shot a ragged hole @100 yds (with a couple flyers) with wolf match. I had no luck w/ Federal Match. I think if I weigh each round, I'll have better consistency and groups. I'm using a cheap Osprey 10-40x, 20moa EGW base, and Leuplod QRW rings. I love this little gun.

Re: New MarkII TR and target

Muchacho, what is the base rifle you have there, a Ruger MK II?

It looks like a nice setup! One trick I showed a buddy of mine, who almost always shoots off of a bi-pod when shooting from a bench, was to clamp a couple of 2x4's to the bench where he can position his bi-pod legs into the corner formed by the boards, and repeat his position consistently, it made a big difference in his grouping with all of his rigs.

Might be worth a try. He actually built a little frame out of 1x2's which he always brings to the range, and one of those simple 'squeeze' type clamps for securing it to the bench so he always has it in his toolbox on his truck.

Re: New MarkII TR and target

Stock is a painted laminate stock from Boyds. For the most part a great stock, only thing I don't like is how weak the inleting is at the front take down screw.

Re: New MarkII TR and target

That eley primer compound is nice. I knew it had a refined euro type oder!

Adam, as MSG said, it's laminated wood thats been painted. I might paint mine tan this winter. I have a 1/8th inch bottom metal plate coming to prevent wood crushing if I need to tighten those action screws.

fish, the Mark II TR is right out of the Savage catalog. They sell it as the "TR" and get the stocks from Boyd's. It has an oversize bolt knob and fluted 22" barrel but otherwise is like any great Mark II. Thanks for the bench tip.

So he is not only using a device that he won't probably have access to in the field (thats impracticle practice right there) and he is also bolting his guns to the shooting bench!? Ok, sorry but thats class A shooting right there(sarcasm). Does he also stand as far away from the rifle as he can and manipulate the trigger via hydraulics? If so then of course his groups are going to get better! Take human error out of the equation and its all up the the rifle. Now what does that do for the shooter? Well, unless your collecting data on what the rifle is capable of it does nothing for you. This is a training rifle, how is it supposed to teach you anything without actaully shooting the gun yourself? Im against benchrest shooting for this reason, im sorry but its just not right...

Muchacho, Nice gun, i hope she serves you well!

Terror, when the OP is talking about how to get his gun to group the best off of a bench it is a totally practical piece of intel. Bench shooting a gun is about repeatability and what your gun CAN do. And no, the gun isn't bolted to anything, it's just a method for adding repeatability to how you set your rifle on the bench. If you don't want to know how your gun shoots from a bench--don't do it!

Re: New MarkII TR and target

Okay i misunderstood you then. I appologize, but from reading your post i got the feeling that it was something done every trip to the range. And when you allready know your guns capabilities this is impractical.

Sorry for my ignorance,
Dylan

Re: New MarkII TR and target

Actually I want to get a lead sled. I load for a few center fires and think it would help my load development. Of course routine shooting with it would not be fun. But even for things like minor tweaks to the action screws it could show it's worth.
