Well, I ordered my xt -22 wood stock monday, they called and said it was in today. I ordered it online and had it ffl'ed to a shop. I bring it home and fire a few rounds. I notice it is waaaaaayyyy to the right. So, I look and notice that the rear sight is waaaaayyy right. I bring it inside and proceed to tap the dovetail to the left - that's when I notice that it is so loose I can move it with my fingers. I think, no big deal since I am going to scope it anyway. ( I usually remove front and rear sights anyway) I bring it in and look through the manual and see how to adj the new trigger system. So I take my new gun apart and notice that the bottom lug (also dovetail) just falls out in my lap????? I think, hmm no biggie, I have never seen one loose but I go with it. I adjust my trigger and start to screw my barrel back to the stock. I slide the bottom lug back into the barrel and then I noice that the screw holding it in the stock is way to the right???? I then notice that my barrel is attached to the reciever crooked.

WHAT the HECK???? Brand new rifle - croocked barrel? I took out the top two scope mount screws and looked inside - it appears that the barrels are not threaded on but pinned on. I will call Marlin Monday and see what they say. I'll probably send it in.

I've had marlins in the past and had really good luck out of them. It just bugs me that I'll have to send in a brand new rifle.

Anyone ever dealt with marlin?

I'll try to post some pics later.

see how the mag plate and center bolt go to the right in the pic... You can see a lot better with the barrel off, maybe more pics tomorrow.

Re: New marlin xt-22 and problems :(

Wow. That would most certainly tick me off! I love Marlin rifles, but lately noticed that they are getting really cheap not only in how they are put together, but in quality control as well. It isn't just them though, now Ruger is putting plastic barrel bands on their 10/22's! Total crap. They don't even tighten up straight, and if you put too much pressure on the band screw, it makes the barrel band bow out wider than the stock itself. Really bad. Hope you get your problem squared away. Good luck.

Re: New marlin xt-22 and problems :(

Just for the information. Marlins are no longer made with the quality they once were. Since Remington a.k.a. Freedom Group bought them out, and moved production to Kentucky, Q.C. has gone out the door.

What was once a very good rifle manufacturer has become a casualty of a conglomerate company who could care less about quality compared to the amount of shareholders it is designed to appease.

Re: New marlin xt-22 and problems :(

You can probably get it fixed without much trouble to you. A friend of mine has an old Model 60, and its an awesome, solidly built little plinker. The rifles of today just don't stand up to what they once were unfortunately.

that sucks that you have one like that, but every now and then just about every manufacturer will put out a few POSs. savage had a few where the holes in the receiver for the scope bases were misaligned, and the one guy here got a TR that was missing rifling.

they might as well re name it a remington xt. so you'll be dealing with remington / marlin, surely they will do something for you. let us know how it turns out, and how their customer service is.

last night i was gander mtn, they had 3 models of xt there - xt 17v (heavy barrel 17 hmr with wood), xt22yr (youth) and a xt22. after a decent looking over, i didn't notice anything that would stand out as a defect, but i couldn't take them apart either.

i'll elaborate more in the xt thread.

Re: New marlin xt-22 and problems :(

Yeah, I'm sure they'll take care of my, I'll let you guys know what they say monday.

I have a question tho. If I send it in can they mail it back to me or do I have to have it sent to an ffl? I'd hate to pay a fee for that..

Re: New marlin xt-22 and problems :(

So... I call marlin today, they are going to send out a shipping label (7-10) days , then it goes to NY, that will take a couple days, they said 5 week turn around IF they have one in stock to replace it IF it needs replaced. *it does I'm sure

So looks like I am 6-7 weeks without my new gun, that I picked up fri. That sucks.

Re: New marlin xt-22 and problems :(

well, give it a good look (as with every firearm new or used) before purchase.

check this out Savage MKII F/G vs. Marlin 25/925 sporter barrel showdown Parts 1, 2, and 3
the XT is more or less a 925, which is an older 25. i really think that the XT will fill be the gap (accuraccy wise) between the MKII and CZ, at a at half the price of a CZ, and seemingly comparable or even lower price than the MKII.

unfortunately arrowslinger had problems, but thanks to his post we all know what to look for. sucks that one has to wait to get it taken care of, but at least they are addressing his issue.
