New product idea.

I have an idea for a solid adjustable rear rest that would attach to a sling swivel stud. I'm trying to figure out what steps i need to use to maybe get this idea off the ground. Or if there were members here that would be interested in hearing my idea to possibly help get it off the ground, that'd be great! anyways, let me know if your interested. It's free to ask ya know.

I have an idea for a monopod idea that is adjustable, and folds up towards the pistol grip out of the way. it would act kind of like that bag, but be fully adjustable, made of metal, and quickly adjust to different micro-adjustable heights. basically when you used my product, you attach it, it has a sling stud on the exterior that would prevent you from having to remove it. the actual support would be quick detach as well so you could change between the 2 or 3 different lengths i'd have. 2.5-5", 4-8" and then 6-12". definately an improvement, but i can't seem to get anyone to help with the actual metal work. I've been in talks with Harris bipods, and they love the idea, they're just too busy to do the R&D on the product. I've also sent a proof of concept to HS precision, i'm waiting to hear back from them monday. I'm going to go to the local machine shop tomorrow and see how much it'd cost to make a prototype. anyways. there it is in a nutshell.

Better take a close look at the Accu-Shot before you drop a lot of money just to be sure youre not stepping on toes. Sounds awfully close.

The sad truth is that unless you got some very solid ND (none-disclosure) arrangements with these, or any other corporate type guys, it looks like your idea may not be your idea anymore, and if I were you, I wouldn't worry about making any prototypes on your own account at this time. But if you're just curious what comes out of it, it's your holy right.

In concept they're similar, however this hyperlink is the first time i've seen the accushot so it's in no way a copy or evolution of the product. My idea has double the adjustment, and a different mounting system involved. and it will be a LOT less bulky. Also, the adjustment function is completely different. I'm not trying to step on any toes here, i'm just thinking of a good product that would work. There are multiple gun companies out there, but remington isn't really stepping on savages toes.In actuality, the two products are nowhere near the same. I obviously have been very vague but if you seen the two, you'd see the differences.

I know absolutely nothing about this outfit personally, but he seems to be pretty pleased with how they are handling his idea and the help they have given him in developing it.
May be worth a look.

Nimrod12, start here; USPTO search awarded patents, then if you do not find your idea infringes on current issued, hire a patent lawyer to verify and make application of your idea. Then shop it around.

To be clear, it is not the appearance that is covered in a Utility Patent but the function described by the patent. ( A DESIGN patent is for the ornamental characteristics, i.e. the way something looks, like the Nike swoop.)

Have fun chasing the American dream as I too once had an idea....

Hi Nimrod12,

Kasey is absolutely correct in what he says. In general, if you have a good idea, you should never disclose it publically or offer it for sale until you have filed a Utility patent application (Design patents are very much limited in the protection that they provide). Further, depending on the circumstances, if you have already disclosed the idea or offered it for sale, you may have started a countdown clock of 1 year for filing a patent application in the US before you are statutorily barred from filing at all (see 35 U.S.C. 102(b) for specific laws regarding this)...
