I think it is anodized aluminum or some kind of potmetal! Looks brass. But was not.
Did some digging. Indeed aluminum alloy. The first model guns have frames marked PR1 and Alcoa. Trigger guards are a separate part and are aluminum, brass anodizing color.
They did use a zinc alloy (potmetal) in some early blackhawks then went to an Alcoa aluminum frame.
The early bearcats are sweet little guns. 16ozs or so loaded!
Shame on me for assuming brass. I always just associated color and non magnetic for brass. Terrible considering I had a 1969 model for quite a while. Cool old guns, next one I dig up will be an “alpha” version

+ one to everything you said. I bought mine because i honestly couldn't afford any thing better, but it always went bang. Really the only thing I didn't like about it was that it pinched my trigger finger between the trigger guard and the trigger every time I shot it
