I am very new to reloading and have come up with this as a list of what I need to get started. Could you let me know if there is anything I have left out or don't need?

I will be loading match and plinking .308 and .223 rounds for use in ar's.

How can I reload bullets that have a cannelure?

With this setup can I deprime and reprime military brass with crimps?

I am also a little confused on powder, is varget or IMR 4895 good to go in both the .308 and .223?

Thanks for all the input

Re: New reloader questions

The items you have is a good start. Here is a link to a great setup and info. It's a great site to get a good idea on how to speed up your reloading by using a progressive press. Especially if you're reloading for an AR.

I just started reloading too and setup is a Dillon 550b, RCBS ChargeMaster, Giraud, and a simple single stage for basic stuff.

Re: New reloader questions

read your reloading manual several times front to back before you start.then read it agian.do not use any loads that are not listed in the books and DO NOT go over the max loads until you have some experiance under your belt or are working with a very experianced reloader.just my opinion.and dont forget to have fun

Re: New reloader questions

The beginning loader needs to start simple and work on up from there.

A press, a 2-die F/L resizing/seating set, a priming capability, a dial caliper, a scale, and components. Start with all the above advice regarding research and technique, and stick with the basic, straightforward tools and methods at first. It can be challenging enough right out of the gate to just be able to duplicate published loads without buggering up the product. Pick a chambering, bullet and powder, and start making test batches of loads that are within the published range of charge weights, say ten rounds per increment. I used the increments listed in the Sierra Rifle Reloading Manual, starting with the powder and bullet listed as the 'accuracy load'. Test fire the batches and see which ones stay closer to each other on the target.

That's a good starting effort, and until it delivers an accurate load, any other additional handloading 'secrets' are essentially more of a distraction than an aid.

The point here is to get you started. The extra steps should come later, one at a time, and be tested to confirm their capacity to improve on your accuracy.

If you think about this in terms like learning to swim, it pays to start in the shallow section, and the buddy system is a real help.
