After wanting to reload for years I decided that with prices and backorders at their worst levels ever, it would be a perfect time to take the plunge. So I went out and got the Thumlers Tumbler w/ stainless steel media, a Harvey Deprimer (handy lil tool), a My Weigh GemPro 500 digital scale and for the crown jewel I ordered the Dillon RL 550b (set up for 9mm) I plan to try not to blow myself up then move up to 454 Casull, 223, 45acp, 270, 308 not necessarily in that order. But for now I'm simply enjoying the endless hunt for primers. Any tips or advise on cool ways of keeping all my fingers, please feel free to fire away.

Go slow and make sure everything is right. Read as many reloading books as you can. Get your reloading data from reliable sources (manuals, powder manufacturers, bullet manufacturers). Find someone local that can help mentor you. Don't reload with unknown components. Have fun.

To help keep your fingers and eye protection in working order, store your powder away from the loading bench. Only have the powder type you currently need on the bench. Empty the powder measure after each session and put the powder bottle away. Simple but effective.

If you have a hiccup in the operation, clear the shell plate before you start production again. Remove the semi processed brass and set it aside to single feed back into production at the end.

Only time I almost double charged was when I fixed a jam and than pulled the handle again on cases that had already been processed.

I immediatly caught it but I was lucky.

Absolutely take pmclaine's advice. This is good advice for all progressive's but a safety necessity when loading pistol cartridges where the powder does fill over 1/2 the case capacity. It's too easy to screw up and double charge a pistol case.

Awesome advice. Im a noob reloader myself, and right now only load 223 and 308, but I follow your post to a T.
