Hello fellow hide members, I have just received after a 24 hour nics delay (scary first delay ever)...

A new Rem 700 5R SS Mil. .308

I have Used Hoppe's #9 since i was a child, in combination with Sweets 7.62.(i know not to leave that in the barrel for to long).. as of recent i have my hands on some Sentry solutions Products / Smooth Kote, bp 2000, its recommended by Sentry sol. that you clean first with a cleaner that does not leave residue, (as i believe hoppe's does) so i first cleaned using hoppes then send some patches of 99% isopropyl down the barrel, then some clean and dry patches down to pick up any leftovers, let dry applied Smooth Kote, let dry overnight, applied bp 2000 using a cloth patch wrapped around a brass brush as advised by Mike Rock in a post i read here.

anyway... this is a lengthy process.. and my roommate hates the smell of hoppes. what other cleaning products do you guys use. that will not leave residue/ that can be used in combination with Smooth Kote and BP 2000..

or am i stuck swabbing with alcohol before smooth kote applications.

Im waiting on the next batch of lucas bore guides...(just have a plastic one)

Re: New Rem 700 5R Questions (cleaning)

Only thing I'm using in my 5R is Hoppes. In my AR I've used Sweets 7.62 with great results. The residue from Hoppes has never been a problem. No need to oil it then! This past summer I broke in the gun by shooting and cleaning frequently. After every shot for 10 rounds, then after every 2 for another 20 rounds. (I know there is a lot of debate whether anyone needs to do this) All the while, I was checking groups. I didn't see any difference in my 5R if it was clean or dirty. Groups were all around .5".
