After too many years of M4 limitations, I finally got into a long-range system. After much reading and counsel, I set up my new rifle, a Remington M700 SPS Tactical .308; Badger Ordinance 0 MOA one-piece rail, ARMS #22L rings; Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20 x 50 LR/T M1 Mil-dot scope; Harris bipod. A Bell & Carlson Tactical A5 is on backorder.

The ammo used for initial break-in and zero was 40 rounds of PMC Bronze 147g FMJ-BT. Results: last 3-round group measured 1.44 inches at the 200 yard zero. I can hardly wait to see what the Federal Premium 175g Matchking HPBT ammo will do.

Thanks for all the informative postings.

Just bought that same rifle. Gonna take it out tomorrow to see what it will do. I have been wanting a short handy .308 for a while now and figured it would do fine. Gonna put on a EGW base tonight (hope these things are allright, it didn't cost much) and slap a Nightforce on it and send some amax's and SMK's out to 750. Might put another base and stock on it in the future.

I got the HD model and it was great! Set it on top of the rifle and no notable daylight visible. I bedded it anyway for piece of mind.

It is thinner/shorter in height and made from premium 7075 (same stuff the badger M5 and some AR receivers are made from). I have both and have never had a problem but I like the HD enough that if I buy EGW that is what it will be from now on even though it is about twice the price as the standard line ~50-60ish.
