Hello everyone

I am in the market for a new rifle . I am looking at the tc pro hunter in .308 rifle with a 28 inch barrel and also the tc pro hunter in .308 pistol with 15 inch barrel . I am also lookin at the Bergara b14 hmr In .308 left hand . I also would need two new scopes or one new scope for the b-14 . I am Mainly going to be to deer hunting. My shots will range from 100 yard to over a 1000 yards . On the other hand I also want to try and get into prs shooting as well .... would look some advice on the rifles and help with scopes .. my budget for optics is two good scopes $1000 towards both or a really good scope for the b-14 .. can the tc pro hunter shoot out to 800 yards or say 1000 yards like the b-14 ? .. thanks in advance. Which would be the better buy a new Rifle and pistol in .308 ? Or the b-14 in .308.

I find it hard to follow your post. Could you please be clear with:
*Budget for rifle
*budget for optic
*primary use of rifle (hunting, plinking, PRS all carry different priorities in gear)
*ranges (yards or meters) you will shoot most often

Otherwise, people are just going to berate you for asking if you should purchase a 308 pistol for shooting deer at 1000 yds.

Sorry lol .. the pro hunter rifle with a 28 inch barrel. I know with the pro hunter pistol I would shoot out to 300 yards max for my self or closer .. my main question is can you shoot the pro hunter rifle with a 28 inch barrel out to 600 yards or a 1000 yards . The other rifle I am looking at is the Bergara b-14 hmr in left hand . So where I hunt I can shoot. 500 yards easy from one stand either direction. But I have some places on the property I can shoot up to 1200 yards if I wanted to but that would be later down the road as I practice and get better . Must shots will be 600 yards or less . But I would like to get into shooting steel targets long range .. so that why I was looking at the Bergera b-14 Hmr rifle for hunting and target shooting down the road . For the scope I can spend up to a $1000. Or if I get the other two I can spend $500 each for the tc pro hunters .

WTF

Yes, you can shoot a 308 to 600/1000 yards.

Why not buy just 1 rifle for now (say the Bergara or whatever else floats your boat) and spend the all the other cash you have on good glass?

Try using paragraph breaks, it makes it easier to read.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong-
You'd like a new deer(?) rifle in .308, that can also be used to start shooting steel plates.
You like something effective to 500 yds for hunting.
Budget is 1000 for the optic.
Bidget for the rifle is ___?

I think you'd be better served by one rifle instead of a rifle/pistol combo - the Bergera HMR and nicer glass.

I *think* he means the single-shot breechloader version, not the muzzleloader.

If I go the route of getting the b-14 . Which scope would be good the rest of the cash left over ? Not including base mount out and rings .
Start with something simple. Do some research into brands and prices and decide what you think is your best option, but keep it simple to start with. Maybe try one of the lower-priced Leupolds.

And in the vein of "keep it simple", you could do worse than getting a Remington 700 to start off with. Simple rifle, but once you're used to it you can go and change 99% of it into a rifle that's been tailored into exactly what you want it to be. The options are just about limitless, but if you start out simple, you get to control what you do and do not do with the rifle in the future.

I have two Remingtons 700s in 7mm .30.06 and Win. Model 70 in 30.06 and I can shoot all pretty good . Basically I would like to get a new rifle and have it chambered in 308. But I’m left-handed I’ve shot right hand guns all my life and shotguns as well. I have one left hand shotgun a sbe2 .

Go for the Bergara, then, if you'd like to. You can get it left-handed.

I would say keep it cheap and simple till you get a clearer picture on what you want The Bergera shoot it maybe a 900ish dollar athalon or vortex shoot it enjoy it a bunch of bags a bi pod maybe another bi pod and a decient shooting mat you like . take a class , shoot more take more classes by then you should have a ton of other options and the chance to save more .but most of all enjoy it have fun with it try different things with it .

I don’t plan on trying to be tactical at all lol . I agree that I should get one rifle and better glass . Thank you for the replies so far ..
For glass check out this thread:

By the way the Bergara B14 HMR is also available in left handed since you mentioned having had to shoot right handed rifles all your life although you are left handed.
The HMR is a little heavier than your standard hunting rifle but I have yet to meet a hunter who did not like it, and eight of my friends are shooting either the HMR, or the HMR Pro, plus it does extremely well at long range for being a factory rifle, and the Magpul AICS mags from Bergara are only $29.99.

I would definitely get the Bergara HMR for the roles you’re describing. It has a very adjustable and lightweight stock, barrel isn’t too thick, and it can work as a target rifle too.

I have a HMR in 300 Win and an HMR Pro in 6.5CM. The 300 Win is a hunting rifle and the 6.5CM is a range rifle.

Both Bergara rifles have smooth actions and shoot pretty much any bullets in MOA groupings.

As far as scopes go, I’d personally avoid the Christmas tree reticles on a hunting rifle.

If you can afford it, a Leupold Mk 5 3-18 with the TMR reticle and call it good. The scope is lightweight, compact, and will serve you equally well on a hunting or range rifle.

The Bergara can be found for $900 new and the Mk 5 can be found for $1500. That leaves you a nice financial cushion for rings, scope covers, and ammo.
