I contacted Mark at Short Action Customs just before Thanksgiving about an ad on here for a trade for one of his builds. He was very professional and great to deal with. He called Sunday night to let me know it was just about done and wanted to go over the last details. I met him yesterday to pick up my new rifle and he took me out to lunch after. I had high expectations based on seeing some of his other builds and he exceeded them. I highly recommend Mark, he builds a fantastic rifle and does it quickly. After I broke the barrel in today I had five rounds left and shot a group that was under 1/2" at 100 yards. Sorry about the lousy pictures, all I had was my cell phone.

The specs

SAC Alpha 11 long action
Bartlein 10 twist 300 WM
APA bottom metal and Little Bastard brake
Manners T2A stock
Atlas Bipod
Leupold MKIV 6.5-20
The rings are loaners until I get some lower ones.

Re: New SAC build

Yeah, Mark's a good builder and a nice guy. You will be happy with your rifle, it looks great. Free lunch with every rifle- setting new standards in the industry. I will demand it next build!

Re: New SAC build

Thanks for all of the replies, I am really happy with both the rifle and my dealing with Mark.

The bolt knob is the one it showed up with, I assume it is the standard size. I think it is the right size.

The brake is probably the best I have used, will definitely be my go to for future builds. This rifle has less recoil and muzzle jump than my TRG-22. It may just be me, but it does not seem as loud as some of the other brakes I have used.

Re: New SAC build

Gpowers gave me a heart attack on the phone yesterday. He called me with a dead serious tone stating that he just got back from the rang and "<span style="font-weight: bold">let me ask you this Mark, is this the best you can do?</span>" I said "<span style="font-weight: bold">What???</span>" GPowers says again, "<span style="font-weight: bold">This rifle, is this the best you can do??</span>" With my heart beating out of my chest because I was not sure if he was pissed off or what, he goes " <span style="font-weight: bold">because this rifle just shot a 3/8 MOA group with the first load I tested</span>" I hate being pranked!!!!

Anyway, here are some pictures I took before hand. I'm really happy with the color's we went with. All metal was Coyote Tan with Patriot Brown accents to match up with the stock. I really liked working with Manners Molded In Camo stocks. The Gel-Coat they use has a great texture to it and it just looks great and feels good. Its not a smooth finish like the McMillan, its slightly textured throughout. Here are the build specs.

-Short Action Custom's Alpha 11 Long Action, 20 MOA base, Lower Bolt Clearance Modification, Double pined recoil lug, Match firing control assembly, Timney 510U trigger tuned to 2 lbs.

-Bartlein M40 30 cal barrel, 1-10" twist, 5R rifling, finished at 24" with out brake.

-Manners T2A stock, molded in camo, Atlas BT-17 Rail, Atlas bipod, our Epoxy pillar bedding with some American Precision Arms "RTG" bottom metal.

Everything turned out great and I'm very pleased with the way the rifle turned out.

Re: New SAC build

Mark, thanks for the better pics of my rifle. Sorry about the near heart attack, just like to give a hard time. Should have waited until you know me a little better before I started harassing you. Mark is a great guy to work with and he builds an even better rifle.

Re: New SAC build
