Hey guys,

New member here. I have been viewing this forum for some time and found a plethora of information, but I still have some questions as I hear what seem to be different things to me as I ask each source.
I was wondering if someone could guide me in the right direction on a scope for the DPMS patterned 308 24" bull barrel I have recently assembled? It will be for bench target shooting and at a casual level. The ranges around here only go out to about 300 yards give or take. I would like to get something for long range shooting (eventually) but don't want to break the bank. My budget I would like to stay around for a first scope is $600. I understand if you want quality you often have to pay a good price for it so I am prepared to be informed that my budget will not allow for a quality long range scope. There were a couple scopes I had in mind, but I was looking for feed back and possibly some other suggestions. Is the 4-16x too much for the ranges I will be shooting at Or could I use more magnification? I am open to all suggestions and advice and can adjust my budget if I can get more out of it. If there is other information from me that I may have missed that helps please let me know. Also I do apologize if I have somehow submitted this in the wrong forum. Thanks.

The scopes I have been looking at:

Vortex Viper 4-16x 44mm LR
Nikon Monarch 4-16x 42mm
Sightron SII Big Sky 4-16x 42mm

Thanks for the reply!

That Weaver looks like a really nice scope. A little more than I was looking at paying but it does have FFP which I understand makes a difference at higher magnifications.
The Vortex Viper I was looking at is the HS series. I will check out your other suggestions as well.
