New Sig CROSS

I received my Cross today. The fit and finish seems to be pretty good. I like the trigger. Removal of the handguard was easy. The barrel nut and extension nut were tight. I added a M-Lock Arca Plate and a bipod stub. Those parts fit the rail well. I stripped the scope off another rifle because I haven't received my scope yet. My TBAC 338U is on it but I think my Ultra 7 will be used most of the time.

308. I really want to play with a 277 Fury barrel though. There's a nasty rumor around that someone is making (or trying to make) 223 bolts and barrels also.

Still not mine, but a friend's I shoot sometimes, shows up in my shop to get stuff installed (like the Warcomp) or... painted:

Yup, even the ZCO 420. We asked. Non-baked external finishes don't void the warranty, no problem.

The warranty on the scope or the rifle?

Cross carbon barrels.

Some monday morning CROSS-porn for everyone, with the carbon barrel. Finally got to shoot it at distance last week. Was drilling a 2/3IPSC at 1152 consistently. Gotta say, the more I shoot the cross, the less I want to shoot my heavy a** match gun. haha

How much does it weigh now?

I think if I keep mine I will be going with a longer carbon barrel. I do love shooting my cross, it shoots extremely well for what it is.

Collin is going to put on a great match. I wish it wasn’t 14 hours away for me and gas wasn’t so darned expensive!
Yeah I had kind of forgot about it till he posted something over on Rokslide saying there were a few spots left open and has been great at answering my questions.

Clamp the barrel, then loosen the nut. Remove barrel.
That removes the barrel from the action. This is for removing the barrel extension from the barrel. The part you can't currently source a spare to make your own barrel.

I like mine a lot, one negative I would say is that even though the rifle is theoretically set up for easily user swappable barrels, that aftermarket doesn't seem to have really taken off because no one seems to be able to get a reliable supply of barrel extensions from Sig. Maybe that log jam will break up at some point, but it dampens the benefit of a quick user swappable barrel system when you can't just buy a barrel ready to slip in, and have to move your extension back and forth, re-headspace, etc.

It's a personal preference, but for me a safety that locks the bolt (preferably a 3 position like M70 or push button like X-Bolt) is an important feature for a hunting rifle you'll be dragging through the countryside, dark timber etc. The folded stock trapping the bolt knob on the Sig is kind of a token, half-assed approach, not really useful in most hunting circumstances where bolts partially opening can be an issue, in my opinion. I still use my Cross for hunting because I like almost everything about it, but I have had the bolt partially open while hunting, and that's one design factor I think they missed the mark on.

After 40 pages what’s the opinion on the cross? Any negatives?

I honestly love mine. I find myself grabbing it to head out more than any other rifle now. The compactness, weight and accuracy are great and perfect for a backcountry rig. Mine now has a carbon 20" barrel which has only improved it.

As for what @Gtscotty said, I agree. The lack of extensions is a pain. I am currently workin on that though and am hoping to have some made in sometime in the next few months.

Anyone know what the firing pin size is? I have a 308 coming and wanna run small rifle primers because I have a lot of them. Anyone tried Lapua or one of the small rifle primer brass manufacturers in their Cross? Thanks in advance.

I have used Starline and Lapua SR primers in my 6.5 CM, no issues.

Where did you get the small arca rail for your cross? Sig makes a full 13" rail, but too long for me

I have a MDT 8.6” arca rail on mine. Keep in mind the first m-lok slot isn’t usable due to barrel diameter.

Thanks - I do have a small 3" picatinny rail (for bipod) on my Cross, but I noticed the barrel may be hitting one of the screws

Trying to decide what magnification range for the cross. I’m in the $500 ballpark (with LEO discount) and thinking a minimum of 10x on the high end, maybe up to 20? Looking at the Athlon Helos Gen 2 2-12 or 4-20

I literally just ordered a Athlon Ares ETR 3-18x50 with the Zeiss rings......pretty nice setup for the Cross. I was originally looking at the Helos BTR gen2 2-12x42
