New Smartphone Based Wind Meter

Clearly there are no recreational shooters at engadget, but this thing piqued my interest. Hopefully they'll get it out ASAP - for a proposed $59 it seems like a nice accessory for long range days.

It's still no Kestrel killer, but it's interesting.

The wind info is useful on the Kestrel, but the pressure, DA, etc is so much more important imho. The wind could be dong one thing near me and something else 1000 yards away.

I'd buy one for $59, but I'm not selling my Kestrel.

Yeah the price point and GPS based data caching impressed me the most. If I can walk to the target location, record readings, then periodically record readings on my way back to my shooting position it would really come in handy. No Horus Atrag, but I think it beats out the Kelstrel 1000 series. If they can do it at a $59 price point and in a plugs into my smartphone, that makes for a pretty sweet combo along with some other ballistics apps and cuts down on the extra gadgets I need to carry with me.
