For you viewing pleasure, please excuse the gloss Redfield accurange with fine crosshairs as its not correct scope but done in a pinch, nor is the rounded off Redfield base, was waiting for the Wichita swivels when I took this picture.

And I see you have a period correct Harris Bi-Pod on there , Nice work . Your gun is far from perfect , but none the less very nice . Your in a glass house throwing stones , so , you've lost some street cred .

Well Denny, seems the person questioning the components , is , just as i thought , throwing CRAP . Why ?? They dont have a " Perfect copy " yet claim it is and ask for a gimme on the scope . So, I tossed some crap right back to the bi-pod, non correct scope crap stirring person . Think I have an attitude problem ?? Well maybe some have a perception problem .

You did post some top notch info , and I say Thank you for it ( did I not ) .Now , mjh , is in my book throwing crap , with his half baked " COPY " , which I say is good enough for me to see as a " Copy" because of the effort he put into it . Yet I get no respect for trying from him , so mjh , like my gun for what it is or , stfu . You'll never see a harris on my M40 . I dont think Gunny Hathcock had a harris .

Re: New Stick , M40 Copy .....................

KIDGLOCK, seriously did you even read my posts,
my first comment about your rifle was

"Leave it alone, those stocks are awesome and cost a bundle, no worries on warping issues there".

Then you posted a picture of the Redfield scope that you were bidding on Ebay, I simply replied

"That is not the correct redfield, not talking about the green first generation, but that is not even a correct second gen scope".

Then you got upset

KIDGLOCK, I have seen more than one HIDE member spending good money on a Redfield scope or base or rings that were not correct, if you know what is the correct scope fine, but that Redfield you were bidding on is not even close.

As for my half-baked copy as you call it;

Yes I know the bipod is not correct, that photo was taken after a range trip, also the rifle is not correct in one other feature, but thats pretty obvious, but thats a bad photo so it doesn't jump out.

But it is a period correct Rem 700 short action in 308, clipslotted, with short bolt shroud, tall safety, barrel is 24 inches, 1 in 10" twist, 830 at the muzzle with a flat crown. Low height Redfield four screw rings marked 1-66, barrel and receiver are parked, satin black on bolt shroud, I should have done flat black on bottom metal, but thats on me.
Really only missing one thing and thats the elusive 40X base, oh the scope, yeah its a gloss Redfield accurange with fine crosshairs, but I got lucky and found a Satin one.

Marty
ps I love wood on a rifle, I actually talked with Ben at Accurate innovations several years ago about making me a stock for a M40 copy because I wanted the rifle to be a shooter, perhaps I should have.

Re: New Stick , M40 Copy .....................

Wow, I can’t believe this is still going on.

To maybe put this in some form of context, there are two USMC Snipers currently going up for bid (the post thread was removed, I’m guessing due to links posted), but both the M40 & M40A1 were built by Corps 2112’s as awards rifles. Both would have been judged as incorrect by some purists due to some “improper parts”. Heck, there both fantastic examples of what you do in the field to keep things running. So, your rifle is good to go!

I seriously doubt that any sniper cares about “All correct matching parts” Just does it shoot and hit what I aim at. End of story.

Re: New Stick , M40 Copy .....................

I see whos is helping and who is showing that they have a reading COMPREHENSION problem .

I quote my self .

"I'm looking for a CLOSE replica of a redfield, I bid on this one , but was outbid !! Bastard I say . "

That statement should have answered/nullfied such comments as the " Thats NOT even close to being the right scope " . Yes , Mr. Obvious , I friggen KNOW .

I say good for all the purists out there , great work and THANK YOU for the great info . But I can not afford nor do I want a perfect copy . The gun looks good and shoots even better .

I have had it down the gunshop a couple times just leaning on the wall , it gets more looks and OOHHH and AAAHHHH's than any other in the shop . I have been offered more than I paid for it , not for sale . If I had to have 1 rifle I would slap a 10x MKIV on it and grab my 10mm Glock and feel warm and fuzzy .

Re: New Stick , M40 Copy .....................

Got the scope mounted with the Lupey base and a custom .005 brass shim , cut undersized as to not be seen by the Purist
whistle.gif
crowd . You will notice I shoot period correct ammo in my close replica of an fake M40 clone twice removed from reality .

To XARMOR; In this I’m Not an Expert by any means! Still learning.

To KIDGLOCK: You have an excellent picture on the screen to reference what we’re all attempting to achieve.

I think you have provided some great info Gut .

I have achieved what i wanted and it works the way I want and looks the way I want . I'm not attempting anything but self satisfaction .

If SWFA gets Lupey to build a 3x9 in green I'll get one and slap it on . Till then I'm GTG .

Honestly, I don't know what the history books say but I was told by someone who said he knew Carlos personally, that while the M40 was being issued to Snipers, he was able to continue using his Model 70. Apparently he was given special permission. Don't know how true it is but the guy I know had no reason to lie.

Re: New Stick , M40 Copy .....................

Any of you guys who own these copies ever shoot them? I've had mine for over a year now and have killed a few animals with it and shot a good bit at the range, but I'm telling you that these bastards kick! I'm just sayin with the steel butplate and all they are not too pleasant to shoot, especially compared to the rifles most of us are more accustomed to shooting. Now do I have rifles that kick more?...Yes, but not in .308 Win. Any of you guys have the same opinion?

Here is a pic of mine...It's not a perfect match for an M40, but it's mine!
