Hello everyone!
First post, so please be gentle
smile.gif

Been registered for a while now and every day i´m amazed of the combined knowledge there seems to be here.
I have been shooting for many years now but just recently bought my first long range rifle and now i could use some advise.
Since i´m on a quite strict budget i bought a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 scope to start with, and so far i like it (it was mounted yesterday so it don´t have any range time just yet).
I realised though that i could really use some sort of flip-up covers for it but don´t know what to get. I´ve only used Butler Creek ones earlier and i´m now wondering if there are any other appropriate ones availible.

Please excuse the bad english, it´s been roughly 15 years since school

Re: New to hide

butlers, good bikini, whatever works for you. i liked the butlers till they started breaking all the time. now i run a combo.

eah what the heck is that rifle! looks neat.

welcome to the hide.

cheers

Re: New to hide

Yea I'll second what everyone else here has said. Your stick looks amazingly fun to shoot with. I'd go with Butler Creek scope caps if I were you. Can't go wrong with a good set. I haven't had any Butler caps break in the last 3 years I've used them. Good luck in your search and Please do let us know some details on that rifle of yours.

Re: New to hide

The rifle is a Sauer 200 STR (scandinavian target rifle) in 6,5x55 caliber. It's basically an SSG 3000, but with a different stock. It's the rifle that the swedish volounteer shooters association uses but with a scope instead of a diopter setup. I'll post more pics when i get of work. Thanks for the tips on the flipups.

Re: New to hide

So, i´m finally home from work. First of all i want to thank everyone for the warm welcome.
I suspect i´m gonna be spending a fair amount of time on this forum.
Gonna be shooting the rifle with this scope setup at my local range on Sunday for the first time, i´m very curious to see how the mount works and scope performs.
A few more pics:

And finally a Sauer and a very tired ridgeback

Re: New to hide

Welcome to the Hide!

You have a very nice rifle. Personally, I love the 6.5x55 Swede cartridge. Less recoil than the American .30-06 and the 6.5mm bullets have some very high Ballistic Coefficients. Excellent cartridge for long range shooting.

By the way, what happened to your dog?

Re: New to hide

Thank you, really looking forward to tomorrow to see how it performs. Gotta go to the range today to see if it´s even possible to shoot 100m, alot of snow here right now which sucks.. Might have to start at 300m since it´s indoors.. Nothing serious with the dog, he got a small cut under his paw playing with his sister... All good now.

6.5x55!!! It's nice to know that it's still being chambered for premium rifles!

Re: New to hide

Nice little setup you got there. I had the pleasure of visiting your country a couple years ago, In the summertime. You sir live in a beautiful country

Re: New to hide

Thanks!
I love my country, for me there´s no better place to be, in the summertime that is, climate´s perfect, in the winter though (sigh) way too cold..
In Sweden we have a history of 6,5x55 in military use in rifles like this one:

M96 Mauser made by Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB for the voulonteer shooters assosiation in 1944. A really good shooter for being as old as it is..

Welcome to the Hide. I have been to Karlskrona, Ronneby, and Stockholm when I transferred from my ship. We were on a Baltops in June and I must say, it is beautiful country up there. I did have a hang up with it never getting totally dark. When I would go on watch in the pilothouse at 0230 and the sun was coming up it was kind of trippy.

Re: New to hide

The range i usually shoot at have 300m capability, with electronic marking/monitor at each shooting place. Really nice feature, especially in wintertime with lots and lots of snow, saves a bunch of time.. Really happy with how the rifle performed today, scope and base worked just fine. (targets are the 2 tiny dots, 300m)

I would like to see pics of that as well

Re: New to hide
