First I've never used NV and would like to get setup for hog hunting on my families land. I'm current looking at a running 2 amarasight spark core's on bridge mount, the amarasight nyx7 gen 2 or atn nvg7-2. With the bridge mount for the spark all these are close in price. The only thing that stands out to aside from gen1 vs 2 is the spark has 60-70lp/mm were as the gen 2 unit are nearly half of that. Has anyone had hands on with any of these? If it matters shots should be inside 100 yards and will likely pick up an ir unit possibly the steiner.

I have used many of the cheap nv units.

Gen I: Bicycle. No wheels. Missing the pedals. Sure, it’s a bicycle.

Gen II: Working bicycle. Barely. Think Huffy.

Gen III: Finally, you get to a basic commuter bike. It works and works fine. Mostly.

Translation - night vision sucks until you get to the expensive stuff, and it sucks a little even when you get there.

If you are gonna do this, get a hardcore illuminator to go with the cheaper units. It helps. A lot. Never shoot at a target you cannot positively identify. A park ranger is dead and a dude is chilling in prison for shooting at an eye reflection without a positive ID.

Honestly, you prob won’t be satisfied with the options you listed above. I had the nyx7 gen 2+ for a little while along with an ir laser. I would say that’s the bare minimum that you can use.

It was fine for navigating in/out but didnt have enough range to make quality shots IMO. I decided to go the thermal route and was much happier once I did.

A little while back there were several pvs7 gen 3 units in the EE for under $1500

Thank you gentlemen found a deal and bought 2 of the psv7's. Now to decide how to mount. Anyone have any pro/con's of a skullcrusher or using a rothco base helmet?

Do not do a skull crusher. It is not a term of endearment. It is a fitting name to a painful device that probably is still used as a form of torture in unscrupulous countries.

Hey, I got something for you to look at OP, found it in the for sale section:

$4000 for WP PVS 14 and full power PEQ-15. This isn't a bad deal, especially if it's all in excellent condition. I sorta wish I could jump on it. The PEQ on low will do most of what you need, but on high it can be used to light up longer ranges. I use a clip on sight so the added illumination is important to me. The higher power laser is good for fog and poor weather where the low power laser just isn't cutting it. The blue screw can be inserted so it only operates on low and red if you like.

You can score either another 14 or a set of 7D's for your wife, whatever she likes best (though I'd still recommend getting used to the 14). And if you still want a bridged set, instead of having to buy matching tubes, etc., it'd make more sense IMO to get a set of PVS15's, dual aviation grade NV hardened for ground use. Then give her the 14 above if you go that route.

Or add a PVS 30 to it and make the ultimate night hunting rig. A FLIR scanner would just set it over the top.

You literally have limitless options, only depending on budget.
