So. Cal
I have a .223 that I want to start reloading ammo for but I don't know what exactly I need as far as reloading equipment. I'm looking for something cheaper like this one... http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=0000690633

Is that ALL I need tho as far as the reloading goes? All I need now is primers, bullets etc.? Or do I need more EQUIPMENT to allow me to reload? If anybody can help me out or pick me out and link me to a nice/cheap reloading bench it would be much appreciated! Thank you guys.

Re: New to reloading, need help.

IMHO, and with over 45 yrs of reloading, there are much better made presses out there.
wink.gif

Look at Dillon, RCBS, Redding etc.
Cry one time and buy the BEST you can.
Except for .50 BMG, I do all of my loading(.32 S&W-.45-90 Sharps)on a Dillon #550. My match ammo will shoot with the best factory, It's just cheaper for me to load it....
Check youtube for demos. of the various presses.
Respectfully,
LG

What's wrong with that press tho?

Re: New to reloading, need help.

"Soft" metal. That press will make ammo that goes bang.
Your looking for match grade ammo, right?
I went with the Dillon because a single stage presses are just to dang slow for me.
RCBS and Redding have much better leverage, which means less effort and you don't tire out as fast.
RCBS, Redding are better made presses.
Try'em ALL before you buy, You'll see

Soft metal?

I'm ok with single press but from your dillon press to that Lee will the ammo come out the same? Shoot the same?

Re: New to reloading, need help.

It depends on the person working the handle as to what does what and when.
"Soft" as in zinc based metal.
Go read the specs for those others I gave you.
Call their customer service. Compare warranties.
The press is as important as the dies and YOU as the operator doing the prep.

Re: New to reloading, need help.

Dillon is the best progressive loaders on the market IMO. I doubt very seriously though that any of the better benchrest or LR shooters in the country use them for thier match ammo. Many of us have for many years done just fine with single stage presses for match ammo, in fact, I prefer them. Look at Forester's Coax or of course the old tried and true RCBS Rock Chucker, (can get it in a good "kit" form). If you want a multi station without going "progressive" so you can set your dies for a couple calibers and leave them, then look at the Redding T-7 turret press, very high quality and rock solid. I think its a 7 station.
It depends on what you are after. If you want accurate ammo, there is no reason to get a Dillon, quality single stage presses will do the trick and then some. If you want a lot of good quality ammo for target/plinking in a shot amount of time....Dillon is hard to beat.

US Palma Rifle Team loads their pratice ammo on a Dillon

Dillon will load match ammo as good as any single stage. I have been doing such on my 550 for over 20 yrs.

Yea, that's what I'm looking for; accuracy. If you guys could link me or tell me what a good quality singe stage could be bought that'd be awesome. </div></div>

Pull up Goggle and type the makers name in.......

Re: New to reloading, need help.

Dont get your panties in a wad lumpy. I guess I should have said I doubt "many" match shooters use them and no one said Dillon presses cant load match quality ammo. I was simply pointing out that you dont have to lay down that kind of coin to produce it.

F661, like lumpy said, google the make you're interested in. Many of them offer a pretty good starter kit like RCBS's Rock Chucker kit...I think they're a little over $300 now. You could also research it a bit more and find out what specific componants would suit you best and get just them. There have been many threads here in the past where people gave someone advice in this area, try a search for that. Good luck.
