Hey guys, I did a quick search and I just need help.

I'm very new to loading and just want to get the first few rounds under my belt. I have the Redding Type S dies with a Rockchucker. I am loading .308 for my Remington 5R Mil-Spec.

The gun loves Black Hills Match 175 BTHP (non-moly).

I have about 600 rounds of BH brass sitting here all de-capped and clean and just need to know what freakin' bushing I need to get started! Be gentle, it will be easy for you experienced guys to go WAY above my head quickly.

Help!!

When I was shooting BH, they were using Win brass.

I use a 0.338 bushing to get down from the obturated size of 0.3445;
Then I use a 0.332 bushing to finishe the neck sizing.

I would measure a diverse sample of your loaded ammo necks, take the smallest measurement, subtract .002" and buy that bushing first.

Later, you may buy .001" bigger than the first bushing.

Still later, you may buy .001" bigger than the second bushing.

Still even later than that, you may get a concentricity gauge and a Lee Collet neck die, do some comparative testing, and stop using bushings. That is what happened to me.

I just loaded a bunch of BHA brass and I used a .334 bushing. The neck tension is light, about .001. But it shoots outstanding in a bolt gun.

Re: New to Reloading - Redding Type S Bushings?

I like the bushing system for dies. I ordered the Forster Bump dies in 308 since they come with 3 bushings, 0.336", 0.334", 0.332". They also bump the shoulder. I also use the Full length sizing die from Forster which also bumps the shoulder, but I only use it for FL sizing. I am going to have Forster hone out the inside neck diameter to 0.338. This enables me to have the bushings needed for all the brass I use.

Opps..forgot to mention. I use the .336 for LC Brass and .334 for Win/Black Hills.

Hope this helps.
